Position Summary The Associate Principal is a key instructional leader who partners with the Principal to ensure a safe, inclusive, and high‑achieving learning environment. This role emphasizes: Instructional leadership and staff development Student support systems, including oversight of special education and Section 504 compliance School operations and community engagement The Associate Principal assumes leadership of the school in the Principal's absence and dedicates significant time to improving teaching and learning outcomes. In collaboration with case managers and district leadership, the Associate Principal ensures the effective implementation of IEPs, 504 Plans, and related services, maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations while promoting equitable access to learning for all students. Key Responsibilities Instructional Leadership Support high‑quality curriculum implementation aligned with District priorities Use student data to drive instructional improvement and inform decision‑making Lead and support professional learning, coaching, and staff evaluation Contribute to the development and monitoring of the Strategic Change Agenda Foster innovative, student‑centered learning environments Student Services & Special Education Oversight Serve as the building Section 504 Coordinator Collaborate with case managers to ensure timely and compliant IEP and evaluation processes Monitor special education programming to ensure effective service delivery Participate in IEP meetings and serve as LEA representative as assigned Ensure Child Find procedures and mandated timelines are met Provide staff training related to special education, 504, and inclusive practices Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations School Climate & Culture Promote a positive, inclusive, and equitable school environment Support student behavior systems and restorative practices Strengthen student engagement and belonging Build meaningful partnerships with families and community members Ensure consistent communication with staff and families Operations & Organizational Leadership Assist in developing and managing the school budget Support hiring, onboarding, supervision, and professional growth of staff Ensure adherence to Board policy, negotiated agreements, and legal requirements Oversee school safety procedures and emergency preparedness Coordinate building‑level committees and initiatives Support supervision of extracurricular and student activities Communication & Collaboration Maintain timely and professional communication with students, staff, and families Serve as a visible and approachable leader within the school community Participate in District leadership meetings and professional development Contribute to district‑wide initiatives and strategic planning efforts Core Competencies Strong instructional leadership and commitment to student growth Knowledge of elementary curriculum and best practices Understanding of special education law and Section 504 regulations Ability to analyze data and implement improvement strategies Effective communicator and collaborative team member Sound judgment and professionalism Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic school environment Commitment to equity, inclusion, and continuous improvement Qualifications Required Illinois Professional Educator License with Principal or General Administrative endorsement Master's degree in Education Successful teaching and/or certified educational experience Preferred Prior elementary leadership experience Experience with special education compliance and 504 oversight Experience leading professional learning or instructional coaching Physical Demands Regular standing, walking, speaking, and hearing Frequent use of technology and office equipment Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds Ability to respond to emergencies and attend evening events as required Frequent movement throughout the school building and grounds Work Environment The work environment is typically a moderate‑noise elementary school setting. The role requires flexibility, visibility, responsiveness, and engagement with students, staff, and families throughout the school day and occasionally beyond standard hours. Salary The Associate Principal position includes a competitive salary range of $104,000 - $110,000 and a comprehensive benefits package comprised of 25 vacation days, 15 sick days, 3 personal days, and 5 bereavement days.
