JOB DESCRIPTION: Summer Elementary Staff Orientation: July 1, 2024 and July 2, 2024 Program Dates : July 8, 2023 - August 2, 2023 Location : Ashlawn, Arlington Traditional, Barrett, Campbell, Cardinal, Drew, and Long Branch Mode l: IN-PERSON The elementary academic strengthening program for Summer School 2024 will continue to be delivered through an integrated content approach using the Engineering is Elementary hands-on and computer science curricula. Math and language arts connections are part of each daily lesson and/or project. This is a co-taught model of instruction in which EL teachers provide support and scaffolds within the EIE classroom. RESPONSIBILITIES: Participation in professional learning activities prior to Summer School Ability to scaffold and differentiate the identified curriculum, as needed Ability to adapt lessons and projects so the curriculum is accessible to all students Support and encourage student interaction and engagement during lessons and activities Co-teach at different grade levels as needed Ability to communicate effectively with families and other staff regarding the Summer School curriculum and instructional strategies that support EL participating in Summer School EXPERIENCE: QUALIFICATIONS: Virginia licensed teacher with an ESL endorsement Knowledge of best practices and experience teaching elementary English learners (ELs) Experience providing English language accommodations that supports literacy and math Knowledge of the academic, social, and emotional needs of elementary ELs Experience working with a variety of English language proficiency levels Experience working with multiple elementary grade levels MUST BE AVAILABLE TO ATTEND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PRIOR TO THE START OF SUMMER SCHOOL CONTACT INFORMATION: Candidates should contact the site administrator at the elementary summer school location they are interested in applying for or Kati Costar at kathleen.costar@apsva.us or at 703-228-6090 if they have any questions. APPLY TO: SALARY: Summer School Teachers who are APS employees during the year will be paid the Non-VRS equivalent rate - hourly rate or $35.52 per hour., whichever is higher. (Please note Salary earned relative to summer school employment will not be included in the employees creditable compensation amount reported to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).) Retired APS teachers will be paid $47.73 per hour per APS pay plan. Non-APS licensed summer school teachers will be paid $35.52 per hour.
