Summer Elementary Orientation: July 1, 2024 and July 2, 2024

Program Dates : July 5, 2023 - August 2, 2024

Location : Ashlawn, ATS, Barrett, Drew, Campbell, Cardinal, and Long Branch

Mode l: IN-PERSON


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides instruction in locating, analyzing, and effectively using information resources for all curriculum needs.

  • Collaborates and partners with teaching staff to deliver ongoing instruction in the acquisition of information literacy skills tied to the APS curriculum.

  • Encourages students and teachers to maximize the use of information in various formats, electronic as well as print, and promotes the ethical use of information technology.

  • Customizes instruction to serve diverse learning populations through varying instructional activities.

  • Integrates fiction and nonfiction works into lesson design.

  • Is knowledgeable about literature for children and young adults

  • Motivates students to appreciate reading as a lifelong activity.

  • Provides orientation and training to all students and staff concerning library services and resources, including the use of all features of the APS OPAC, Follett Destiny


EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience with managing a library and working as a school librarian

  • Experience working with a diverse population of learners


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters in Library Science or equivalent; school library teaching certificate

  • Familiarity with the Follett Destiny library software

  • Familiarity with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs)

  • Familiarity with the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) National School Library Standards

  • Familiarity with Dewey Decimal shelving order

  • Ability to develop literacy and media literacy lessons that support the Virginia SOLs

  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration and technology skills
