Professional Day and Orientation: July 1, 2024

Program Dates : July 8, 2024 - August 2, 2024

Location : Kenmore Middle and Yorktown High

Mode l: IN-PERSON

This summer school position will be located at middle and high schools. The SAC works with students who have been referred for issues related to substance use. Each SAC tailors prevention and early intervention programs to fit the needs of their assigned schools.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support student attendance and achievement in summer school

  • Provide early intervention counseling support to referred students

  • Consult with staff, families, community agencies, and community providers

  • Coordinate referrals to outside services

  • Provide case coordination of services for students

  • Provide assessments of students whose behaviors may indicate warning signs of abuse

  • Provide individual counseling when needed

  • Consult and collaborate with students teachers, families, and administrators on a regular basis in order to develop strategies to help students be successful in Summer School

  • Respond to student emergencies in accordance with Arlington School Policies and Policy Implementation Procedures (conduct risk assessments for suicide and support threat assessments)


EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working with adolescents

  • Experience interpreting SASSI and other assessments


QUALIFICATIONS:

National Addiction Counselor Certification (NACC) required

SALARY:

Summer School Teachers who are APS employees during the year will be paid the hourly rate or $35.52 per hour., whichever is higher. (Please note Salary earned relative to summer school employment will not be included in the employees creditable compensation amount reported to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).) Retired APS teachers will be paid $47.73 per hour per APS pay plan. Non-APS licensed summer school teachers will be paid $35.52 per hour. If you resign effective the last day of the school year, you will receive a flat rate of $35.52 per hour for teachers.
