508 Compliance (SME)- Remote Apply
The 508 Compliance (SME) will be the primary expert in the development, delivery, and ongoing improvement of all IT accessibility and be the liaison to the program office. Job applicants must have extensive accessibility experience. The 508 Compliance (SME) must have experience in redesigning and/or developing solutions to ensure IT hardware and software compliance if an accessibility problem is detected. The 508 Compliance (SME) must have significant experience in accessible web design and must maintain current applicable certifications, such as CPWA (Certified Professional in Web Accessibility), DHS Trusted Tester, or equivalent.
Position Responsibilities:
- Develop processes and procedures related to:
- Section 508 compliance;
- Conformance to applicable standards (e.g. WCAG 2.0 A and AA); and
- Reporting against established accessibility baselines.
- Provide subject matter expertise to IT project teams and operational support
- Share
- Perform United States Access Boards Section 508 Standards assessments applying to ICT Conduct
- Document and report audits using standardized procedures
- Manually audit 508 compliances to ensure ICT and AT maintains Section 508 Technology Accessibility Standards
- Conduct a quality assurance workflow check to review and validate completed ICT assessments
- Prepare and submit Compliance Audit Reports
- Complete manual audit requirements, milestones, and deliverables
- Operate in multiple environments including legacy applications written in VB6, Delphi, or MUMPS, and modern applications written in HTML or Java Script and electronic healthcare record/Cerner products
- Significant experience in accessible web design
- Current applicable certifications, such as CPWA (Certified Professional in Web Accessibility), DHS Trusted Tester, or equivalent
- Expertise in both the creation of accessible documents and the remediation of existing documents, of all common document types (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF).
- Conduct team meetings and show and tell demonstrations
- Thorough understanding of Section 508 of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Ability to utilize assistive technology tools
- Understanding of HTML, JavaScript and electronic healthcare record /Cerner products is useful
- Ability to write and create compliance and quality improvement reports
- Ability to use assistive technology tools, such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, and speech recognition software
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in computer science, engineering, engineering management, math, or similar technical discipline (8 years experience can be substituted for education)
- 5 years of relevant experience
- CPWA (Certified Professional in Web Accessibility) or equivalent
- DHS Trusted Tester certification or equivalent
- JAWS or screen reader Certified
- Experience working in VA or other Government agency [desired]
- Ability to obtain a public trust clearance
