Job Description
Sr. Accountant
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
•Performs daily reconciliation of sales and orders data for the timely submittal to the Corporate Office
•Reconciles, analyzes and reviews general ledger accounts in preparation for month end close
•Prepares journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations in accordance with generally-accepted accounting principles
•Maintains general ledger accounts and related activities for the production of financial statements and reports
•Assists in the month-end closing process and the preparation of financial statements
•Communicates the month, quarterly, and year end close process and requirements to accountants within the division
•Investigates issues and provides explanations and interpretation of financial information to management and internal customers
•Participates and prepares documentation in support of external and internal audits
•Audits current accounting policies and practices and Sarbanes Oxley documentation to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, FAR cost accounting standards and applicable government statutes
•Writes & recommends policies and procedures. Takes part in the preparation of yearly budgets and the planning process
•Helps analyze purchase price variances and standard cost anomalies
•Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential
•Applies and leads continuous improvement initiatives to improve the efficiency of internal systems and processes within the division and/or with corporate and customer involvement
•Performs ad hoc reporting and analysis
•Serve as a resource to others & may lead or be assigned to a special project team
•Assesses and interprets internal and external customer needs and requirements
•Solves moderately complex problems and/or conducts moderately complex analyses
•Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks, and/or participating in professional societies
•Job responsibilities may change, or additional responsibilities may be added based on the need of the department, the division, or the corporate office

JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITITES

•Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Accounting.
•Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through five or more years of related experience.
•Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, laws, and regulations, including Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and/or Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).
•Ability to effectively assess and implement continuous improvement principles and techniques.
•Proficient with automated accounting systems, spreadsheet applications, and internet/intranet communications.
•Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports.
•Ability to prepare detailed reports, graphs, presentations, and business correspondence.
•Ability to respond to questions from management and customers; respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
•Ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, team leaders, and top management.
•Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
•Ability to effectively demonstrate team member competencies and participate in goal-setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities.
•Excel experience is required.
