JOB DESCRIPTION:

SUMMARY:

 

Purchases goods and services for the organization. Primarily responsible for MRO orders.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:


Identifies and develops suppliers.


Verifies nomenclature and specifications of purchasing request.


Supports Central Stores Coach to determine order quantities.


Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts both short and long term within budgetary limitations and scope of authorities and seeks input from both internal and external sources.


Initiates cost savings projects with suppliers and team members and drives them to completion.


Prepares initiation of bid forms and presents forms to suppliers.


Works with suppliers to increase the quality of their products and received input from quality, end users or vendors and others to help formulate corrective action which may include issuing DMRs..


Works to improve supplier delivery schedules and delivery frequency.


Assists with development of approved supplier list.


Confirms controlled products meet technical specifications.


Negotiates, prepares P.O.’s, completes value analysis of suppliers.

 

Resolves variances between invoice and P.O. prices.


Monitors outstanding orders to ensure timely deliveries and expedites shipments as needed.


Assists in writing work instructions and procedures.

 

Takes appropriate action towards attainment of goals and objectives, working as a partner and contributor to the other business functions within the company.

Works with Brokers in routing and clearing of materials and equipment through customs from overseas suppliers. (This also includes IFS/10+2 requirements, creating commercial invoices, shippers Letters of Instruction when needed, and scheduling inbound shipments from Japan with plant personnel.


Develops a working knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 14000 principles.

QUALIFICATIONS:


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

 

Associates Degree and two years buying experience or equivalent combination of four years education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, technical procedures and blue prints. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of vendors or team members of organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


REASONING ABILITY:

 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
