JOB DESCRIPTION:

PURPOSE OF THE JOBThe Lab Technician actively participates in a lab team focused on developing new products and processes in applications for glass nonwoven materials. The Lab Technician will be involved in fiberglass mat development, mixture and coating formulation, equipment operation and maintenance, as well as characterization of experimental products. The role also provides support to the business by producing samples of developmental products for customer evaluation.JOB RESPONSIBILITIESDemonstrates a Commitment to Safety· Unconditionally comply with all safety procedures and client corporate safety policies.· Support the safety culture daily, and actively participates in all safety meetings, audits, and activities.· Perform audits on routine tasks to identify and promptly mitigate hazards in the workplace.Product and Process Development· Contribute to the product development of nonwoven products through formulation preparation, fabrication and mimic technology, testing, and analysis.· Organize work areas and lay out equipment in logical manner to efficiently conduct work flows.· Develop proficiency in the established test methods used to generate required results (ASTM and TAPPI physical test methods). Adapt the methods and protocols as necessary to new products and technologies.Provides Technical Support to Customers and Organization· Fully understand requirements for customer support requests and execute the scope of work to meet the needs of the requestor and business.· Improve productivity of the lab through efficiency improvements, operator training and process capability improvements· Support the transfer of new product/processes from the laboratory to manufacturing plant/customer as needed.JOB REQUIREMENTSMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:· 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing or laboratory environment.· Strong data analysis skills and understand basic statistics.· Proficiency employing typical productivity software such as MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).· Comfortable working with hand-tools, measuring devices, and laboratory instrumentation.· Able to maneuver 15lbs under full control with arms extended 15” out for 30 seconds.· Travel: Up to 20%PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:· Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field (science or engineering).· 3-5 years of experience in a research chemical laboratory setting or similar work environment.· Familiar with testing protocols used for characterizing the physical properties of paper or plastic films (e.g. ASTM or TAPPI procedures).· Knowledge of nonwoven/paper technology or water-based coating formulation is preferred, but not required.
