DIE REPAIR TECHNICIAN - 2ND SHIFT (330pm-12am)
Location: Belleville, MI
Direct Hire

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot tooling that is not performing standards.
  • Repair tools, dies and fixtures throughout the facility.
  • Assemble machine tools, parts, or fixtures.
  • Maintain tools per defined blueprints and work effectively on tooling to support the production schedule.
  • Maintain job books to confirm repairs for tooling.
  • Recommend changes in tooling, methods or materials for cost effectiveness and avoid production delays.
  • Ability to order details and update Plex system on tooling updates/status.
  • Individual should have advance understanding of MIG/TIG welding tool steel.
    Including but not limited to A-2, D-2, S-7, 4140 and O-1 steel.
  • Must be capable of operating equipment such as mills, lathes, saws, grinders, and drilling machines.
  • Must be able to grind tool steel and shim trim steel and punches.
  • Associate must have ability to read and understand blue print or die/tooling details.
    Must be able to study blueprints, sketches, models or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
  • Individual must have demonstrated ability to read measuring devices including calipers, micrometer and liner calipers.
  • Willingness to assist in ensuring 5-S standards of housekeeping are maintained in tool room area.
  • Ensures Lockout / Tag-Out procedures are followed when working on equipment.
  • Recommends shut down of equipment if found to be unsafe or not capable of performing to specifications.
  • Follow IATF 16949-2016 requirements per standards.
  • Suggest and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Calculate and/or verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.
  • Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerance.
  • Select production input materials.
  • Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.
  • Lift materials or workpieces using cranes or other lifting equipment.
  • Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths, or power grinders.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe metal or plastic stock to lay out machining, using instruments such as protractors, micrometers, scribes, and rulers.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, health and safety issues, procedures, and programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Education and Skills Required:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years prior experience in the die maker/die repair trade, journeyman card preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years' experience with high level stampings.
  • Must work quickly, efficiently, and independently.
  • Ability to read, write, understand and speak English is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and blue prints.
  • Basic computer skills required, able to learn and use our MRP system Plex.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Physical Demands:

    • Exposure to industry accepted chemicals and noise.
    • Able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and 75 pounds assisted.
    • Able to stand on feet for 8 hours.
    • Regularly required to stand, reach, bend and move around the facility.
