Job Summary:

The Electrical Engineer (EE) is responsible for design, prototyping and testing of sensors. These sensors must be produced safely and efficiently. The EE will be part of a R&D team, and assist teams and individuals in production, quality, and safety to define and resolve Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and maintain ISO 9001 compliance. The EE will perform a wide variety of electronic and electro-mechanical design, test and troubleshooting of complex explosives and gas detection/identification related products. The EE designs new analog and digital circuits, writes firmware, builds prototypes, and performs design verification tasks. The EE should be comfortable with wiring, component installation, hand soldering and cable fabrication to support design development, prototyping and testing. The EE will work in a multi-disciplinary project team, including Engineers and Scientists from other disciplines and manufacturing. The ideal candidate will demonstrate competency in flexibility, planning & organizing, initiative, and interpersonal skills.

 Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design circuits and assemblies using Altium or similar PCB tools (helpful to have SolidWorks or equivalent experience to assist with mechanical interface components).
  • Generate schematics and design PCB layouts for 3rd party production of PCBAs.
  • Create and/or update product drawings, work guides and specifications.
  • Design analog and digital electronics including but not limited to DAC/ADC circuitry, sensor interface, and microprocessors for system control and communications.
  • Create firmware/software to allow proper operation and interface for handheld and/or unmanned vehicle sensors (Linux OS preferred).
  • Build prototypes and perform design verification including the creation of test plans/procedures, test fixtures, test reports and debugging of hardware/firmware issues.
  • Work with Project Managers to define schedules and work with manufacturing to define and implement test fixtures/processes and assembly procedures.
  • Create, review and maintain engineering documentation, including PCB design documentation, wiring diagrams, cable drawings and build and test procedures.
  • Responsible for releasing and maintaining complete design documentation according to established procedures and support manufacturing and service during the life of the product.
  • Support product development efforts by performing system level trade studies, defining and executing experiments, and investigating new and novel methods and processes.

Job Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering with 5 or more years of experience designing PCBAs and writing firmware.
  • Schematic and PCB design experience using Altium or equivalent tools.
  • Experience with firmware development.
  • Practical/hands on experience with hand soldering and cable assembly for troubleshooting and prototype development/testing.
  • Experience with test design and execution.
  • Software experience with App development considered a plus.
  • Comfortable with assembly of electro-mechanical components with related tooling.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and dependable, with excellent troubleshooting skills.
