JOB DESCRIPTION:

Core ResponsibilitiesAugment existing estimating staff in preparing conceptual, authorization, and appropriation cost estimates for multi discipline construction projects.Develop cost estimates based on preliminary scopes of work, drawings, and sketches while utilizing personal experience and historical data to supplement.Regularly meet with the engineering, construction, and user organizations to ensure all aspects of the project are incorporated into the estimate.Work with a project team to consider and evaluate alternative designs to reach an optimal solution.Contribute to the development of design and scopes of work to ensure constructability and promote cost consciousness.Communicate openly with the project team and various levels of management throughout the estimating process.Adhere to project schedules by meeting expected estimate release dates. May be required to work extended hours in order to meet project dates.Peer review and provide feedback on estimates developed by fellow estimators.Understand and follow all Con Edison and Central Engineering specifications and procedures.May be required to work on special projects.Travel to field locations for field walks and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required. Field locations include substations, generating stations, tunnels, NYC streets, including climbing stairs and ladders. Indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions.QualificationsMust be well-organized and have the ability to handle multiple assignments with changing priorities. Strong organizational, leadership, interpersonal, and decision-making skills are essential. The right candidate must be self-motivated, resourceful, and articulate. Must possess a clear sense of accountability, and a commitment to environmental excellence and safety in the workplace.Must have experience in engineering, design, and/or construction of transmission, substation or generating facilities, OR applicable work experience in transmission, distribution, substation, or generation. Knowledge of construction means and methods is a plus.Preference given to candidates with experience in developing electrical cost estimates for construction projects at substation and/or generating facilities.Preferred Education Requirements:Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with at least 5 years of applicable work experience. In lieu of Bachelor's Degree, an Associate's Degree with at least 7 years applicable experience, OR a Technical High School Diploma with at least 15 years applicable experience in any of the following areas: power utility or heavy industrial electrical cost estimating experience with knowledge in other disciplines (i.e. transmission, distribution or generation engineering, design, or construction).Strong oral and written communications skills are required.Must have experience with in the use of estimating applications and databases. Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, are required.Valid driver's license is required.
