Responsibilities include:
The Role Applied:
The Encoding Technician is responsible for the transmission and delivery of broadcast signals to the required distribution services, channels, and partners for worldwide streaming and broadcast. This role is also responsible for acting as the first point of contact in working with partners and engineers in troubleshooting encoding/transmission issues, the QA/QC of feeds and ultimately stream quality during live playout.
Responsibilities:
Configure encoding broadcast hardware operating parameters based on existing documentation
Configure video compression hardware operating parameters based on existing documentation
Real time troubleshooting of live events and fault-isolation of encoding/broadcast communications equipment
Communicate network/system failures and impairments to immediate and remote teams (1st and 3rd party)
Incident and service outage escalations to the proper teams for immediate action or further action by broadcast, systems, and/or network engineers
Provide support to engineers as needed for timely resolution to stream irregularities of any type, focusing on encoding, transmission, and contribution/distribution feeds
Maintain daily reports/logs of network statistics, maintenance work orders and trouble tickets
Prompt execution of all scheduled tasks; from Go Live, to Rebroadcasts, to Ad Delivery, etc.
Testing and operating a myriad of transmission related software programs, both cloud based and traditional (some existing, and some emerging)
Routine execution and troubleshooting of 1st and 3rd party transmission destinations (Twitch, YouTube, 1st party, etc)
Establishing, documenting, and maintaining knowledge base of procedures, standards and troubleshooting resources for the encoding group
Archival and other IT related tasks in support of the local broadcast team
Other duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications:
Understanding of encoding transmission components for broadcast of HD digital video and audio signals and streams
Encoding of MPEG2, MPEG4, AVC, DNXHD, Apple ProRes into RTMP, HLS, DASH
Experience with IP based streaming (RTMP,HLS,Zixi)
Processes associated with occasional use encoding and terrestrial fiber transmissions
General networking knowledge (IPv4)
Audio and video measurements using standard test equipment
Basic understanding of video transport over fiber infrastructure
Being able to concisely communicate to a wide variety of end users
Knowledge and familiarity with working with multiple Time Zones on a regular basis
Robust Microsoft and/or Apple operating systems knowledge
