We have partnered with a manufacturing company in the Fort Wayne, IN area to provide them with an Engineering Manager (Sustaining).

Prioritized Must Have Skills for the Engineering Manager:

#1.
Must have at least 5yrs experience of managing a team

#2.
Must have Fluid Mechanics and Structural analysis experience

#3.
Must have Lean product Development experience

#4.
No more than 3 jobs in the past 10yrs.

Responsibilities of the Engineering Manager:

Assumes responsibility for defining and overseeing the daily responsibilities of the engineering team

  • Engages regularly with direct reports (provides feedback, drives ownership and responsibility of assignments).
  • Support the creation and execution of the annual Engineering Policy Deployment plan.
  • Oversees the engineering department's interviewing, hiring, and training of new employees.
  • Responsible for resource allocation and task delegation.
    Visual management to ensure project progress is tracked (product cost, schedule).
  • Familiarity with fluid handling products including pumps, meters, and accessories commonly designed from: die castings, sand castings, plastic components, CNC machining, PCB hardware designs, imbedded firmware, and cloud-based solutions.
  • Operates within the annual engineering department budget.
    Identifies and implements capital assets for the engineering department (i.
    e.
    equipment, software).
  • Root cause analysis, corrective action, and preventative action, including supplier and production defects.
  • Adhere to regulatory and agency standards as relevant to the product and markets involved (ie.
    UL Standards).
  • Monitor customer feedback to ensure exemplary performance and customer satisfaction.
    Communicate and visit the customer in an effective manner.
    Develop and update engineering design standards
  • Engages with local universities to expand the engineering department's capabilities.
  • Models the importance of safety within a manufacturing facility.
  • Demonstrates excellence in completion of all other duties as assigned.
  • Assumes responsibility for driving Continuous Improvement of engineering processes

    • Drive Continuous Improvement through use of Lean Product Development tools and Engineering Change Notices.
    • Responsible for the creation, training, and maintenance of the engineering department's procedures.
    • Seeks design partnerships with other departments and encourages direct reports to do the same.
    • Solidify support of Policy Deployment targets through resource planning (internal and external), task delegation, and visual management.

    Assumes responsibility for meeting company's Policy Deployment Goals in engineering team

    • Ensure engineering resources are available for daily production support.
    • Invest up to 5% of time to develop self and employee's technical abilities.
    • Define and implement year over year product cost savings.
    • Achieve quality and product cost targets for existing designs and future product enhancements that are developed by direct reports.
    • Oversee development of new products or redesigns to ensure they meet performance, customer, and regulatory requirements, while meeting margins as committed to in the project scope.
    • Develop, implement, and continuously improve engineering processes and tools (ex.
      Design standards).

    Requirements of the Engineering Manager:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent, Master's Degree preferred
    • Experience managing a technical team of 5+ individuals in a manufacturing environment.
    • Understanding of fluid mechanics and structural analysis relating to fluid handling equipment.
    • Experience with lean manufacturing tools, particularly lean product development.
    • Experience with both mechanical and electrical industrial products sold via distribution, retail, and e-commerce.
    • Strong ability to build relationships with direct reports.
    • Strong business acumen to understand the impact engineering decisions have on all aspects of the organization.
    • Travel Up to 15% Working Conditions
    • Work environment includes office, manufacturing floor, and lab containing petroleum products.

    Other Key Requirements:

    • 100% in-office role.
    • No sponsorships or visa holders.
      No Corp-to-Corp.
