The Benefits Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the administration of benefits and retirement programs. This role also assists with leaves of absence, assisting with onboarding new hires relative to their benefit programs, answering questions for active employees and departing employees on the company's benefit programs

 

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefit enrollments in the HRIS for new hires, qualifying life events and terms in order to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
  • Enrolls employees with carriers and processes qualifying life status changes.
  • Reviews all invoices for various carriers to ensure accuracy. Verifies that all new hires are added, all edits are updated and that all terminations are removed/credited.
  • Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
  • Distributes all benefit enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
  • Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
  • Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and CFRA/FMLA.
  • Effectively interprets CFRA/FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
  • Responds to 401(K) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts.
  • Assists with the 401(k) audit each year.
  • Provides required data to vendors to complete IRS Form 5500 which report information on the qualification of the plan, its financial condition, investments and operations of the plan. All health and welfare plans as well as the 401(k) are required.
  • Assists with the open enrollment process.
  • Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
  • Files all workers' compensation claims and required paperwork to workers' compensation carrier and case manages claims to completion.
  • Completes the OSHA 300A logs for yearly posting.
  • Handles all COVID tracking and updates.
  • Assists with new hire orientation.
  • Administers the doctor Continuing Education Unit (CEU) program.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES/EDUCATION:

 

  • Ability to create/run reports on various benefit issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable state/federal laws.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Must have discretion with confidential information and not discuss it outside of the HR department
  • Must be able to work in a high volume, fast paced environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or products.
  • Proficient with Ceridian and Paylocity HRIS systems.
  • Associate's degree in HR or related field required, but bachelor's degree preferred. Experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education.
  • SHRM certification preferred, but not required.
  • Two – five years' experience in HR and/or benefits administration.
