Role: Public Health Data Analyst Location ; Indianapolis IN, 46204  Hybrid Role, No remote Duration: 12 months Project Resource will be required to work onsite in Indianapolis 3 days per week and 2 days remote The Public Health Data Analyst wrangles validates and analyzes a variety of agency data sources to garner public health insight. The incumbent will produce reports and support data-related activities for the Tobacco Prevention and Cessation (TPC) division and the Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) team. In addition, this role will assist with curation and analysis of various other datasets and assisting the TPC and HAI teams with integrating new data and information into existing and new reports. NOTE There is a very strong preference for candidates with a background that includes public health education and experience for this posting. JOB DUTIES • Serves as the Office of Data and Analytics' project lead/subject matter expert for data-related projects in the Tobacco Prevention and Cessation (TPC) division and the Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) team. • Work alongside the Tobacco Epidemiologist to conduct data analysis of deidentified Indiana Tobacco Quitline participant experience extracts, Youth Tobacco Survey, Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, and additional datasets. • Work alongside the Healthcare Associated Infections team to complete data analysis and reporting for IDOH's Strengthening HAI/AR Program Capacity (SHARP) grant. • Create SAS programs that will allows the HAI team to easily generate quarterly reporting for new conditions and facility types; assist HAI team with optimizing the design and delivery of quarterly reports. • Lead data validation activities to increase the quality of Indiana's healthcare associated infection data, in partnership with the NHSN public health investigator. • Supports TPC and HAI with understanding and utilizing new data sources relevant to their program's objectives. • Using epidemiologic strategies and statistical techniques, analyze data and provide ongoing oral and written reports to guide decision-making. • Assists with processing and analysis of IDOH's hospital discharge datasets as requested • Responds to data requests in a timely manner, utilizing agency protocols. • Helps to transform, map, and clean data to support program needs. • Conducts data quality checks to ensure the validity and cleanliness of agency datasets prior to their use in analysis and reporting • Interprets data and from multiple sources using a variety of analytical techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation to data mining, to more complex statistical methodologies. • Develops compelling data visualizations to communicate findings to target audience(s) • Presents key findings and summaries of results to internal and external stakeholders • Adheres to HIPAA, PII, PHI and other state statutes concerned with protecting data confidentiality and individual privacy REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor's degree in public health from an accredited university with a focus on epidemiology/evaluation and/or data analysis and assessment, OR a bachelor's degree in biostatistics, mathematics, epidemiology, analytics, or related field. • A master's degree in public health is preferred. • Demonstrated experience with data manipulation, including cleansing, standardizing, and transforming preferred. • Demonstrated experience with SAS or R, including data cleaning, running descriptive statistics, and full analyses. • Working knowledge of epidemiological methods, study design, and analysis needed with an understanding of both qualitative and quantitative data. • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Publisher. • Effective time management and program management skills. • Ability to work in a team environment with multiple and fluid demands. • Ability to maintain effective and professional working relationships with internal and external customers. • Ability to research and document findings. Required/Desired Skills Skill Required/Desired Amount of Experience Experience working in a public health role and using public health data Required 2 Years Experience analyzing data using SAS or R to measure a health behavior or outcome Required 1 Years Experience using the MS Office Suite in a professional setting (Excel, Word, Publisher) Required 2 Years Experience with data visualization in Tableau Nice to have 1 Years
