for Industrial Piping Estimator, Portland, Oregon. US - Full Time
Functional Requirements
Analysis and Critical Thinking
· Solicit material pricing detail including subcontract
items as required
· Analyze and apply labor productivity unit extensions
based on an understanding of labor productivity rate development and definition of
cost
· Perform various estimates and process piping take-offs
including manual and/or digitized material quantity take-offs
· Utilize preliminary drawings and sketches,
conversations, and field reviews, extract details of and quantify all material
and labor required, including support crafts and site in-directs estimated to
be necessary to complete a project
· Develop detailed material take-offs, bills of materials,
collect material and subcontract quotes and itemize labor manhour estimates
· Collaborate with General Manager on which opportunities
to pursue after assessing project risk
· Visualize what is not apparent from the project
documentation and take efforts to estimate those potential scopes of work
· Assist in the development of alternative proposals such
as unit price, fixed fee, and time and material formats
Proposal Development & Management
· Coordinate proposals from scope definition through
final costing and submittal
· Assist in preparation of proposal KEYSTONE
· Maintain a list of clarifications, assumptions, and
qualifications identified as risks and discrepancies are detected during
development of proposals
· Accurately summarize and file all piping materials and
labor estimates required per departmental standards and protocols; include any
other information relevant to substantiating the pricing estimate
· Ensure the most cost-effective and innovative
utilization of materials, fabrication, subcontractors, and equipment for each
proposal
· Participate in formal bid reviews and project team
meetings to represent the estimate and to support the estimate hand-over
Compliance and Data Management
· Delegates tasks to various members of the Proposal Team
· Review proposals to ensure consistency with company
estimating policies, practices, and standards
· Organize the material quantity take-off process to
conform to the bid breakdown forms and submittals that are required
· Process and manage a large number of documents and data,
organized to allow recall of work breakdowns, sketches, and other information
to substantiate the pricing estimate
· Ensure that estimates, take-offs, etc. are in
conformance with established estimating standards and processes
Other
· Communicate, through the appropriate channels, any
observation of noncompliance with the Guiding Principles and Core Values other violations of policy or illegal actions that place personnel
and the company at risk
· Perform, with care, any control-related activities
required as a function of the position
· Meet corporate standard for development activity
· Specific job responsibilities and projects will be
assigned and directed by leadership
Contacts
This position has regular contact with all levels of
office and field staff, the Operations & Executive Leadership Teams,
customers, and third-party partners and vendors. This position is considered
part of the Preconstruction Services team and reports to the Corporate Manager
of Estimating.
Qualifications Required:
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in mechanical
industrial estimating for construction projects.
Extensive knowledge of construction labor, scheduling,
materials, methods, practices, and costs plus high skill level with measuring
techniques and mathematics
Effective time management, and a high degree of attention
to detail and accuracy are critical
Ability to work productively with a diverse team and
provide exemplary customer service
Effective ability to communicate both in writing and
verbally
Knowledge of pipe, valves, and fittings in high purity and
industrial applications
Ability to read blueprints, interpret specifications and
RFP documents
Advanced computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft
Office products –Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint
Proficiency with estimating and project management software is a plus
Desired Characteristics:
Previous work experience using CAD is desired
Membership in cost and estimating organizations is a plus
Education:
Bachelor’s degree, Construction Engineering is preferred.
