The Automation organization is a growing organization at Tyson Foods that is responsible for the development and validation of innovative robotics and automation technologies and solutions that improve team member safety, optimize labor and yield, ensure food safety, and provide a framework for sustainable profitability.
As a Lead Automation and Robotics engineer, you will study Tyson operations and work with analysts and process experts to come up with innovative robotics and automation solutions that can be standardized and scaled within Tyson.
This can involve sourcing solutions from established vendors, co-developing solutions with our strategic vendors, collaborating with startup companies, and/or doing R&D work to create solutions that are unique to Tyson needs.
This role will technically lead a team to identify opportunities, develop proof of concept solutions and present to executive leadership.
? These opportunities will be founded in data from our systems of record and this team will be solving problems that best meet the needs of our business and are in high demand.
Upon approval, this position would then lead the implementation of these solutions into production facilities.
? It will require a strong partnership with the existing engineering groups, production plant leadership, maintenance teams, IT organization and executive leadership.
?? In this role you will work closely with others and lead / mentor more junior team members to deliver against objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop automation solutions that can be demonstrated and tested to drive efficiency, worker safety and financial returns leveraging technologies such as Robotics, computer vision, and other industrial automation and software technologies.

Work with Mechanical, Electrical, and Software engineers to develop the details of the automation solution that you are creating.
The goal is for these solutions to become part of the Tyson automation product line that can be scaled and deployed across the Tyson enterprise.

Approver for Design Reviews for component selection, architecture, and determining technical readiness level of solutions.

Ensure project initiatives and processes are in conformance with the organization’s established policies and objectives while meeting all code and regulatory requirements.

Establish and maintain standards, templates, checklists, and relevant technical information for all product development processes related to automation solutions.

Assess the financial and efficiency impacts of these opportunities and design solutions in collaboration with key stakeholders in operations and technology teams.

Design, validate, and execute appropriate test methods to address system design and performance issues.

Facilitate complex problem-solving skills, enhance collaboration across functional groups, and support development efforts for current manufacturing hardware and new system development.

Partner with industry leading technology companies and emerging technology startups to source and apply the new technologies
Map out process flowcharts for current and new processes.

Present new ideas and status updates to senior leadership.



Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree or education
5 to 7 years of direct related experience in application of robotics and automation in manufacturing / production environments OR 5 to 7 years of direct experience in engineering and development of robotics and automation solutions
A passion for modern technology, a true desire to leverage the most advanced technologies available to improve worker safety, operational efficiency, and financial impacts
Understanding and knowledge of food production processes and solutions is desired
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher is desired
Excellent communication, presentation, and demonstration skills with the ability to interface directly with executive level leadership
Ability to act as a single threaded leader on complex projects while still contributing to concurrent running projects, focusing on multiple value streams and technology types.

This position may require up to 15% of travel
Controls Eng Special Skills:
Expertise with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), Industrial PCs, HMIs from providers such as A-B/Rockwell, Siemens, Ignition or similar.

Experience with creating architecture and designing industrial controls systems from scratch.

Experience designing network architectures, selection of networking equipment for ethernet or similar fieldbus communication methods.

Experience with MES/IT Integration
Working knowledge of Cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems.

Expertise integrating various sensing solutions such as inductive/capacitive, optical, LiDAR, sonic, 2D Vision, Barcode readers, etc.

Working knowledge of functional safety standards and requirements such as ISO 13849, ANSI B11, etc.

Working knowledge of electrical standards such as NFPA 79, NFPA 70E, NEC, UL508A, etc.

Expertise with designing personnel safety solutions such as light curtains, area scanners, gate interlocks, and similar systems.

Experience with multi-axes motion control systems.

Ability to design/interpret electrical control schematics, preferably AutoCAD Electrical.

Expertise in troubleshooting electrical control circuits and guiding others through troubleshooting process
Experience in AC and/or DC motor control and different hardware included (ex.
Variable frequency drive, stepper motor, DC drive etc.
)
Robotics/Automation Eng Special Skills:
Develop robotics, computer vision or motion control software related to custom automation solution development.

Experience with Fanuc, ABB, Kuka, Universal or other industrial/collaborative robotic arms.

Experience with simulation tools for kinematics, motion planning, offline program creation such as Fanuc RoboGUIDE, ABB RobotStudio, or similar.

Experience with industrial vision/localization systems (3D, 2D, LiDAR) and vision guidance systems such as Fanuc iRVision, Cognex, SICK, Keyence, or similar.

Working knowledge of machinery related compliance requirements and safety standards.
Ex: OSHA, CE, ANSI, ISO, IEC.

· Experience with safety related software such as Fanuc DCS, ABB SafeMove
