Job Summary:

  • A client of ours in Wayne NJ - Need Local candidates is looking for a Linux and Middleware Security Specialist (Patching) for a Contract opportunity.
  • As a Linux and Middleware Security Specialist for patching, you will be responsible for ensuring the security and stability of the Linux and Middleware systems by implementing and maintaining regular patching cycles.
    You will collaborate with other members of the IT team to develop and implement patch management policies and procedures, as well as provide guidance on security best practices.
    Also, as the Red Team Leader your focus is to identify gaps and weaknesses in the patch management program and provide recommendations to enhance the overall security posture of the organization.

  • Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of security professionals to perform simulated attacks on the Linux and Middleware systems to identify vulnerabilities that can be exploited by attackers.
  • Develop and implement a patch management program for Linux and Middleware systems to ensure they are up-to-date and secure.
  • Develop and execute a red team testing plan for patch management program, focusing on areas where the greatest vulnerabilities exist.
  • Conduct testing to identify gaps and weaknesses in the patch management program and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to the red team testing plan, procedures, and findings.
  • Evaluate the audit reports and assessments of Linux and middleware systems to identify vulnerabilities
  • Work with the IT team to prioritize and schedule patching activities
  • Perform regular security patching and software updates on Linux and Middleware systems to address known vulnerabilities and security issues.
  • Monitor vendor security bulletins and alerts to determine the urgency and priority of patching activities.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to schedule patching activities that minimize system downtime and user impact.
  • Test patches in a non-production environment to ensure they do not adversely affect system performance or functionality.
  • Monitor patching activities to ensure that all systems are patched in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to patch management activities and procedures.
  • Conduct security assessments and audits of Linux and Middleware systems to identify vulnerabilities and recommend remediation actions.
  • Provide guidance and training to other IT staff on security best practices and awareness.
  • Stay up to date with the latest security threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation strategies in the Linux and Middleware domains.
  • Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Linux and Middleware security and patch management.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux and Middleware security concepts and best practices.
  • Experience in designing and implementing patch management solutions for Linux and Middleware systems.
  • Familiarity with patching tools and technologies, such as Red Hat Satellite, Foreman or similar.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as RHCE, CCNA, GIAC, etc.
    are desirable.
  • Technologies and Tools:

  • Linux middleware Apache, Tomcat, TomEE, Java, OpenJDK, Oracle WebLogic configuration, Nessus, Security updates and patching
  • IaC, Bash shell scripting, Jenkins, Gitlab, puppet, Nexpose
  • Qualifications:
  • Experience level: Experienced
  • Minimum 10+ years of Linux and Middleware Security Specialist (Patching) Experience.
  • Education: Bachelors (required)
