Job Description AND Responsibilities:

  • [CLIENT], leader in simulation based urban planning and design, and is on a mission to help Urban Planners, Modelers, Designers, policy makers, real-estate developers and others create better cities that are more livable, equitable, sustainable, and economically vibrant.
  • The company leverages a wide variety of expertise from data scientists, architects, economists, software engineers and others to build unique solutions for customers who want to understand how changes they propose will turn out over the course of decades.
  • The company is branching out to a broader audience, and we are seeking a full-stack developer help in that expansion.
  • The team is building the next generation of SaaS based services for UrbanSim.
  • You will help in designing and implementing the services that support these services in a modular way with appropriate interfacing, encapsulation, generalized design.
  • Back-end service not only service the applications, but also entail the simulation infrastructure which is used for predictive modeling of regions and involve the structuring of data across a breadth of different types, land use, demographic, firmographic, market statistics, transportation and transit, and land policy.
  • Key to successful SaaS products are stable and secure environments, and you will help build the infrastructure that guarantee 4 9's availability and provide security within the system that builds trust with our customers.
  • Areas of opportunity exist both in the systems realm with everything from authentication/authorization to zone separation, and in the algorithmic realm in computing appropriate proforma for multi-variate constraint problems in the areas of urban and building design. 
  • We're looking for someone that can demonstrate proactiveness, collaboration, smart engineering, and ownership.
  • You'll get to work with bright, passionate people, the latest in cloud technology, and know you're building something that will have a lasting impact on the world.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience writing and maintaining services with quality designs for production API-based or web-based systems.
  • At least 5 years of Production work experience in Industry (school projects don't count)
  • Experience with JavaScript and Node.js required.
  • Knowledge and experience with languages, libraries, and tools like Typescript, Go, React, Redux, MapBox GL JS, d3, turf.js, Material-UI or other UI toolkit.
  • Experience with Relational Databases like Postgres, SQL, or similar. A plus is experience with spatial data and working with PostGIS, ESRI tools, QGIS or other familiarity in working with spatial data, such as Python, pandas, NumPy, Jupyter notebooks, big data frameworks like Spark or Hadoop.
  • Knowledge about services design concepts; interfaces, performance, scalability, deployment, security.
  • Preferred if experienced with Google Cloud Platform or other Public Cloud platform, and tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, Cloud-based logging, and monitoring, serverless compute, Cloud Storage, etc.
  • Can balance the needs of application performance vs time-to-market, can deal with ambiguity and change, and has the backbone to voice issues but also be a team player.
  • Bonus to developers that have any experience or exposure to urban planning, urban design, architecture, or its users.
  • BS in computer science or similar technical degree, or commensurate industry experience
