Job Description

Operates light-duty bench- or floor-type machine tools and equipment such as small lathes, power mills, extruding machines, drills or punch presses, power brakes, shears or saws. May set up machining machines and make adjustments, and perform maintenance on machines. Checks work using prescribed gauges, jigs and fixtures to measure close tolerances. Some machines may be numerically controlled. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Functions (may include but not limited to any combination of the following tasks) 1. Position work piece against stops, manually or using hoist or align layout marks with die or blade. 2. Push button or depress pedal to activate machine. 3. Observe machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunctions. Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work piece using files, hand grinders, or wire brushes. 4. Perform minor machined maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces. 5. Rivet work pieces. 6. Tend machines that fabricate and assemble sheet metal products. 7. Set stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template. 8. Read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements. 9. Measure work piece dimensions using micrometer, calipers, dial indicator, rule, template, or other measuring instruments to determine accuracy of machine operation. 10. Assist machine operators to set up machine and stack, mark, pack, and transport finished work pieces.

Skills
Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals. Able to lift up to 50 pounds. Basic math skills.

Experience
Must have experience with machine tools and equipment such as small lathes, power mills, extruding machines, drills or punch presses, power brakes, shears or saws.

Education
High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of related experience
