Summary:

The Global Research & Engineering – Life Sciences team is seeking a Research Microbiologist I to perform a range of microbiology-related preparation work (media, consumables, ordering), experiments, and assays in our BioSafety Level 2 lab. The successful candidate will have a drive for results and attention to detail, with the ability to carry out lab experiments with minimal supervision, document results and communicate effectively. Collaboration in a team environment is essential. The candidate will take work direction from the project team leader and will report to a senior research manager.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain safety at all times and contribute to the safe and efficient functioning of the laboratory. Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked laboratory.
• Participate in lab and experiment planning in order to efficiently carry out required work.
• Prepare bacteriological and fungal media.
• Follow written experimental and equipment operation procedures with high attention to detail and ability to perform tasks independently.
• Utilizing aseptic technique, work with BSL 1 organisms to perform functions such as media preparation, plating and counting.
• Document experimental results and report promptly to appropriate team members.

Required Qualifications:

• B.S. in one of the biological sciences with lab expertise in microbiology. Background in research and on use of bacteriophages is a plus.
• Able to maintain a safe work environment appropriate for a biological laboratory (BSL-2), including competency in aseptic techniques.
• Fluent in efficiently executing laboratory protocols with a high attention to detail.
• Evidence of quickly learning biological assays/methods, assisting with protocol standardization, and recording data.
• Working knowledge of appropriate computer software such as Windows suite, especially Excel for data recording and graphing.
• Excellent communication skills with ability to influence projects and partner direction through oral and written means.
