JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our client has an Operations Manager position available in Golden, CO. Malec Engineering is a 100% employee-owned company and one of the largest and most well-established (35+ years) engineering companies in the United States. The Operations Manager will help manage the Golden, CO business unit to achieve revenue, profitability, and strategic targets. In addition, this role provides Account and Project Management for medium to large sized projects.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Business Unit Manager and responsible for part of the operations of the business unit.
  • Supports development and execution of the short to long term strategic plan, including the income goals.
  • Responsible for periodic business reporting and support relevant business meetings.
  • Develop and enhance the positive culture of the business unit and ensure proper operations of the offices.
  • Ensure periodic operational activities (timesheet approval, expense report approval, invoicing) are completed on time and within the defined budget.
  • Support Business Unit recruitment and hiring per strategic staffing plan.
  • Manage business unit's staffing changes (hiring, terminations) in collaboration with Human Resources department.
  • Support and provide recommendations to Business Unit Manager on staff compensation changes (salary and bonus).
  • Track and review staffs' performance and responsible for the on-time completion of staffs' annual performance assessment.
  • Evaluate the project needs and competency of business unit staff to achieve optimum resource pool.
  • Support business unit staff with their career development planning and growth.
  • Support the Business Unit Manager and Business Development team on business development activities.
  • Manages the business unit's communication and special initiatives like internship and community service programs.
  • Manage key accounts / customers including contract and rate negotiations, client-specific staffing, business development, and strategic planning.
  • Ability to effectively develop and manage scope, schedule, budget, and quality for projects of varying size and complexity, including customer and business unit reporting of scope, schedule, and earned value.
  • Development of project budget, execution plans, work breakdown structures and schedules.
  • Balance Operations Management time with billable work managing capital projects.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Preferred Skills/Requirements

Duties:

  • Proven ability to supervise, motivate, mentor, and optimize in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Goal oriented and focused
  • Strong drive, energy, enthusiasm, and proactive style
  • Entrepreneurial and/or business background preferred
  • Formal project management training/certification and experience managing projects from $500K to $5M in value
  • Experience in business development is highly desirable
  • Strong leadership and client relations skills required
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) & interpersonal skills
  • Excellent negotiation, influence, mediation & conflict management skills
  • Proven ability with problem solving and decision making
  • Personal credibility to quickly establish successful relationships within the team and with our customers
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, & time-management skills
  • Strong budget management and financial reporting skills

Experience

  • A minimum of minimum 10 years systems integration experience including at least five of those years in project management related experience in process-related controls industries.

Required:

  • Experience implementing successful automation solutions involving PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA platforms. Strong leadership and client relation skills required.
  • Experience in one or more of the following industries:
  • Life Sciences, Specialty Chemicals, Food and Beverage, Water and Wastewater.
  • Experience with Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Life Science Computerized System Validation and cGMP compliance is preferred.
  • Experience in managing design of electrical schematics, including power distribution under 480VAC, control panels; associated NEC experience desired.
  • Experience leading local and remote teams of engineers/technicians to provide control system solutions.
  • Experience mentoring less experienced engineers.
  • Experience in achieving strategic goals.

Preference for experience with:

  • Rockwell PLC and SCADA systems
  • Emerson DeltaV DCS and SCADA
  • Additional SCADA/HMI experience a plus including Ignition, Wonderware System Platform

Working Environment

  • Hybrid mix of standard office environment and work-from-home leadership, up to 25% level of travel to client sites in the US; diverse industrial environments; must be willing to relocate to Denver metro area to help manage Golden and Longmont offices.
