<div> <div> <p>Local 5 - Grade 6</p> <p> </p> <p>Under direct supervision, provides ophthalmic sales dispensing and related services to members and non-members of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan; serves as informational resource for patient's eyewear needs.</p> <div> </div> <div><b>Essential Responsibilities:</b></div> <ul> <li>Determines ophthalmic patient's occupational, lifestyle and cosmetic needs; advises and recommends lens style, color and material and frame shape, color and material; prices eyeglass order according to patient's Health Plan coverage.</li> <li>Provides measurements i.e., pupillary distances, segment heights, lens base curves, frame size, etc. for spectacle fabrication by using PD ruler, pupilometer, and lens clock.</li> <li>Applies principles of size, thickness and power in selecting proper eyewear.</li> <li>Knows impact of different lens indexes and recommends appropriate alternatives.</li> <li>Provides ophthalmic eyewear services by selling, fitting, ordering, dispensing, adjusting and repairing spectacles.</li> <li>Measures and shapes lenses and adjusts frames utilizing ophthalmic equipment including lens edger, hand edger, lensometer, frame warmer and precision hand tools.</li> <li>Inspects patient's eyewear using ANSI Z80.1 standards and tolerances; performs quality check functions; reviews patient's previous prescription; identifies questionable changes, and takes appropriate action.</li> <li>Follows-through on emergency orders by calling order into Optical Lab and making certain of lens and frame availability.</li> <li>Performs limited Contact Lens services and refers patients with problems to proper department.</li> <li>Determines patient concerns; recommends actions to be taken; discusses solution/action with Optical Administration as needed; follows-through with resolution.</li> <li>Attains KP Optical sales goals.</li> <li>Maintains attractive frame and lens displays by arranging, cleaning and changing on regular basis; maintains clinic frame inventory status by ordering, pricing and placing stock on frame boards; keeps track of backorder products and takes action as necessary.</li> <li>Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide culturally sensitive care and/or service.</li> <li>Performs other duties and accepts responsibility as assigned.</li> </ul> </div> <h5 class="m-t-lg m-b-xs"><strong>Qualifications:</strong></h5> <div> <div><b>Basic Qualifications:</b></div> <div><u>Experience</u></div> <ul> <li>Six (6) months contact lens and optical dispensing experience.</li> <li>One (1) year demonstrated sales experience.</li> </ul> <div><u>Education</u></div> <ul> <li>High school diploma; or equivalent combination of education (lesser) and experience may be considered in lieu of requirements.</li> </ul> <div><u>License, Certification, Registration</u></div> <ul> <li>N/A</li> </ul> <div> </div> <div><b>Additional Requirements:</b></div> <ul> <li>Demonstrated ability to perform quality check functions.</li> <li>Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in customer service, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem solving, and written communication.</li> <li>Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.</li> <li>Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone.</li> <li>Reading, writing, speaking and understanding English.</li> <li>Training/giving and receiving instructions.</li> <li>Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g. organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration and alertness.</li> </ul> <div> </div> <div><b>Preferred Qualifications:</b></div> <ul> <li>Post high school coursework/training in Ophthalmic Optics.</li> <li>American Board of Opticianry Certified (ABOC) by the American Board of Opticianry (ABO).</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate a multitude of issues effectively.</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to educate patients and staff on ophthalmic dispensing principles (i.e., spectacle lens geometry and lifestyle dispensing).</li> </ul> </div> <h5 class="m-t-lg m-b-xs"><strong>Employee Status:</strong></h5> Regular <h5 class="m-t-lg m-b-xs"><strong>Travel:</strong></h5> Yes, 50 % of the Time <h5 class="m-t-lg m-b-xs"><strong>Job Level:</strong></h5> Entry Level <h5 class="m-t-lg m-b-xs"><strong>Job Type:</strong></h5> Standard</div>
