Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Power Service Technician to join our Southern Area Power Operations Department (SAPOD).
SAPOD is responsible for delivering electrical energy to customers in the safest, most reliable and economical manner through a competent workforce committed to excellence and customer satisfaction.
Your primary role will be to perform specialized installation or diagnosis and repair on all types of electrical systems.
You will provide highly-skilled expertise and work direction in commissioning, fault diagnosis, testing, repairing, preventive maintenance and routine maintenance on transformers, large circuit breakers and ancillary equipment for substations, switching stations, power plants and large motor controls and underground power cables including fault locating.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive maintenance, installation, commissioning, testing, repairing, analyze results and troubleshooting the following types of equipment: 480V through 230KV switchgear, oil/air/gas/vacuum circuit breakers, substation power transformers, pad-mounted transformers, pole-mounted transformers, load break switches, high and low voltage disconnect switches, oil switches, circuit switchers, transformer tap changers (auto and manual), reclosers, cooling fans, substation lighting, substation civil maintenance, emergency lighting, bus ducts and insulators, electric and hydraulic maintenance on heavy equipment.
  • Perform repairs, installs/maintains all types of transmission and distribution high voltage cables such as, solid dielectric (rubber and synthetics) cables, paper insulated lead covered (PILCA) cables, low pressure oil filled (LPOF) cables, and submarine cables and testing of high-pressure oil filled (HPOF) cables.
    This shall include cable splices, terminations, tapes, potheads, transitions, and all kinds of elbows.
  • Utilize various types of testing and measuring equipment such as: TTR, insulation resistance, winding resistance, dielectric, Insulation power factor (Doble) tester, Circuit Breaker Timing Analyzer, ammeters, voltmeters, thermo vision camera, hi-pot, cable test van, battery bank and charger load tests and interpret all tests results.
  • Conduct field repairs on electrical and mechanical components of oil circuit breakers, which include air compressors, hydraulic pumps, mechanical springs, and air systems.
    Also, adjust the mechanism on breaker linkage as required.
  • Perform commissioning tests on new equipment, recommending final acceptance list exception items, if any.
  • Supervise excavation to expose cable faults and loaded/unloaded cable.
  • Perform potential testing, Hi-POT testing on Power Cables.
  • Revise existing equipment and systems to conform to verbal instructions, revised drawings, and work orders; then makes operational test runs for satisfactory repair and acceptance.
  • Acquire clearances, performs switching, receives work permits, and restores equipment to service; when such activities are required to perform work in a timely manner.
  • Train subordinate technicians in advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, test, repair, and maintenance procedures/methods.
  • Practice good housekeeping, including jobsite cleanup, conforms to safety standards, rules, and practices and requires it in others.

Requirements:

  • 12+ years' experience in power system construction, commissioning, maintenance, and operation with an emphasis on transmission and distribution.
  • Ability to read work orders, work permits, vendors' manuals, and schematic diagrams and to communicate with fellow workers on technical aspects of the job is required.
