The Center’s Sustainability and Resiliency team helps New York City’s homeowners mitigate and prepare for the effects of climate change and rising sea levels.
The Center’s programs promote the stabilization of neighborhoods by helping homeowners understand their risk and retrofit their homes to achieve flood insurance and energy savings, as well as physical resiliency.

The Center is hiring one Program Associate to join the Center’s Sustainability and Resiliency outreach team.
Program Associates will help middle and working-class homeowners in New York City fight to meet the challenges of rising tides and climate risk head-on by connecting them to programs and services that enable them to take action to protect their homes, finances, and the future of their communities.
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about serving vulnerable and at-risk populations to conduct outreach to residents that will enhance their literacy with flood insurance, flood risk mitigation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.
Program Associates will also guide homeowners to resources that will help them retrofit their homes to achieve savings and resiliency.

The Program Associate position is a full time, exempt position based in our office in New York, NY.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Provide outreach and education for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and flood resiliency projects including:

• Conducting events (e.
g.
energy fairs, home shows, school activities, town hall exhibits, homebuyer education programs, statewide conferences and meetings, etc.
);
• Conducting energy and resiliency literacy activities (e.
g.
workshops and seminars);
• Conducting one on one outreach to community leaders (e.
g.
speaking at rotary clubs, chambers of commerce, block clubs, community groups, church groups, etc.
and responding to inquiries from the public).

• Promote residential, small business, and multifamily building-related clean energy and resiliency programs, solicitations, and events, as well as other State and Federal program opportunities, within New York City in an effort to educate community leaders, business owners, developers, property management companies, real estate and affordable housing organizations, property owners, local architects, engineers, contractors, entrepreneurs and the general public on the benefits of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and resiliency resources;
• Conduct site visits and schedule meetings with organizations, businesses or residents interested in participating in FloodHelpNY services or CEEP programming;
• For CEEP, act as a Community Energy Adviser who engages homeowners in energy efficiency and renewable energy programs, follows-up to help interested homeowners apply for assistance, and guides homeowners through implementation of energy efficiency projects; assistance will include helping homeowners understand their options and connect to counselors, governmental agencies, or other service providers, ensuring a smooth hand-off between clients and providers, and tracking homeowner progress through final outcome;
• Maintain current knowledge of trends and developments in the affordable housing, affordable homeownership, resiliency, and sustainability sectors;
• Develop creative new ways to promote Sustainability and Resiliency programs operated by the Center;
• Report to partners in government, the private sector, and other non-profits about client issues and trends;
• Maintain information on partnerships, meetings, referrals, and other activities through regular reporting and the use of a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, including Salesforce;
• Other tasks and duties reasonably related to job responsibilities.

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree;
• Excellent problem-solving skills and good judgment;
• Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken;
• Strong public speaking skills, with ability to speak effectively and persuasively to large and small audiences
• Must have or develop in-depth knowledge of flood risk and mitigation, issues faced by homeowners in high-risk flood areas, and energy efficiency renewable energy programs and topics;
• Experience working in public sector outreach, marketing, resiliency, sustainable energy, and/or constituent services a plus;
• Familiarity with New York City and State government and non-profit sector resources;
• Knowledge of the New York City energy industry;
• Bilingual in English and one other language, including Spanish, Russian, or Cantonese, is a plus;
• Must work well with the public and fellow staff members;
• Computer data entry skills required;
• Fluency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and knowledge of Salesforce or other CRM is desirable;
• Able to meet rigorous deadlines and handle challenging tasks with efficiency and attention to detail;
• Passionate about promoting affordable homeownership, thriving and equitable New York neighborhoods;
• Able to coordinate, organize, prioritize and execute multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced setting;
• This position will occasionally require participation in evening and weekend events.
As such, the successful candidate must be flexible in terms of work schedule.
