JOB DESCRIPTION The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional responsible for the delivery of patient care. The nurse is guided by professional nursing standards. The RN may direct activities of other nursing department personnel.JOB REQUIREMENTS QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse required. LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Current licensure in the State of South Dakota as a Registered Nurse or multi-state compact RN license, and must be maintained in good standing. Basic Life Support (BLS) is required upon hire and must be maintained. ACLS is recommended. PALS is highly recommended. Attends all mandatory hospital and departmental meetings and in-services. Participates in educational opportunities and updates/maintains current professional clinical competency related to areas of responsibilities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The RN in the Med/Surgical/Pediatrics Department will be knowledgeable in the care of the following age groups and maintain RN clinical competency in these groups: Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult, Sr. Adult, and Geriatric. Competent to care for the general medical/surgical/pediatric patient. To include, but not limited to: Respiratory Conditions, Congestive Heart Failure, Chest Pain, Cardio Vascular Accident, Diabetes Mellitus, Infectious Disease, General Cancer/Pain, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Laparoscopic Surgery, General Gynecological Surgery, and Pediatric Infections. Responsible for the compliance of Physician/Provider orders. Ensure all cares are complete on the patient, such as, but not limited to, Activities of Daily Living. Ensure that safe discharge plan is complete. Maintain accurate patient care plan.GENERAL RN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS 1. Performs admission assessment, identifying the physical and psychosocial needs of the patient. Develops a written plan using the assessment database.2. Plans and sets priorities in the delivery of nursing care.3. Implements treatment/procedures and administers medications as directed by Physician/ Provider orders and in compliance with Nursing/Pharmacy policies and procedures.4. Evaluates patient's symptoms, reaction and progress. Observes, records, and reports them to the Provider/Physician as appropriate.5. Assesses, plans and initiates patient education, works with the Charge Nurse and other healthcare team members on discharge planning.6. Acts as a mentor/coach to other nursing personnel. Directs self towards professional growth and development to maintain RN competency.7. Follows established work policies and procedures.8. Participates in activities designed to assist in improvement of patient care and department services. 9. Contributes to service area activities.
