We are hiring a Safety Engineer Senior for one of our clients in Ewing, NJ.
Job Description:
- Review and approval of rail accident reports which includes root cause analysis.
- Interpret and apply developed standards and procedures governing light rail safety and security systems.
- Investigate catastrophic failures, major accident and incidents; as well as implement corrective action plans.
- Knowledge of construction safety principles and regulations.
- Knowledge of rail transit operations and maintenance practices.
- Monitor compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations and/or laws.
- Perform a variety of safety inspections and investigations at railroad facilities in an assigned territory to identify safety and health hazards that railroad management is obligated to correct as per federal and state rules and regulations.
- Make observations and complete inspection form, which may include photos, assessing the condition of vehicles, vehicle maintenance, and other railroad equipment.
- Conduct inspections pertaining to power brake systems, locomotives, railroad cars, and their related mechanical and electrical components.
- Plan and perform periodic inspections that provide assurance that rail vehicles are operational in compliance with manufactures standards.
- Inspect and observe tests of railroad rolling stock and other on-track equipment and related appurtenances to determine compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, or standards.
- Prior to or during assembly and installation, inspect and observe tests on railroad, railcar and maintenance facility equipment and other component parts of railroad facilities to determine whether such equipment and parts are suitable for the intended service.
Skills required:
- Looking for a qualified candidate with extensive technical knowledge of railroads, railcars and rail facilities, in order to assist the NJSSOA's program with inspections, observations, and technical knowledge.
- A thorough knowledge of management skills; technique; safety concepts and procedures;
- Excellent communication leadership, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills are required.
- Knowledge of applicable Federal and State safety regulations and requirements, such as FTA, FRA, PEOSHA, ANSI, NFPA and USDOT is required.
- Knowledge of power brake systems, locomotives, railroad cars, and their related mechanical and electrical components is required.
- Knowledge of electronic work order systems such as Maximo or EAM Trapeze is required.
Education and experience required:
- Bachelor's degree in safety engineering, physical or social science, public administration, occupational or industrial safety, construction management, or similar field of study, or equivalent, and ten (10) years of progressively responsible, broad-based management experience in transportation, system safety, with increasing responsibilities for multi-faceted direction and planning.
Work hours:
- M-F 8-4
- Lunch Hours - 12-12:30
Additional information:
- Candidate would need to pass a conflict of interest and background check.
- Location: This position will require routine travel to four facilities; two in northern NJ and two in southern NJ. Occasional meetings/updates in Trenton NJ required.
- Full-time preferred, but part time is possible; part-time would be at least 20 hours per week. No reimbursement for mileage.
