Scientist I, Chemistry (Production)
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform multi-step organic synthesis in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while following all safety, quality, manufacturing, and business system processes.
- Work under close guidance and follow instructions from senior team members and/or supervisor regarding the standard established processes and methods used in the Eugene Organic Production lab.
- Understand the written production documents and be technically capable of performing the processes and procedures.
- Conduct analysis of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products in accordance with the quality requirements.
- Keep a clear, complete, and accurate account of all manufacturing work using Master Batch Records, notebooks, work order documents, and other required documentation.
- Maintain accurate inventory of raw materials, WIP, and finished product by completing error-free transactions in enterprise business systems.
- Responsible for the completion of all tasks assigned daily; this may require more than 40 hours in some work weeks.
- Large scale processes require the ability to set up and maneuver large glassware and equipment. Must be able to lift, bend and push objects weighing up to 40 lb. on a regular basis. Role will require standing and walking more than sitting.
- Other duties within Operations may be assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Required minimum qualifications: Bachelor s degree in Chemistry with a minimum of two years advanced organic synthesis experience in a laboratory/manufacturing setting.
- Preferred Qualifications: Master s degree in Organic Chemistry
- Familiarity with standard organic synthesis laboratory techniques: inert atmosphere, distillation, extraction, liquid chromatography, TLC
- Working knowledge of common analytical techniques: UV-Vis, HPLC, NMR, pH
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Possess an understanding of basic reaction mechanisms and reactivity.
- Solid technical writing skills, with an ability to accurately and succinctly document synthetic procedures.
- Adaptable, fast learner, able to think critically, solve problems and maintain composure in stressful or ambiguous situations.
- Effective interpersonal skills in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment in order to effectively communicate about shared resources, technical issues, operational processes, due dates and priorities.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to evaluate, prioritize and execute multiple projects while responding to changing priorities and due dates.
- Proficient in PC applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
