POSITION SUMMARY Primary Duties:
  • Develop world-class gas-fired combustion systems for boilers, direct vent furnaces, vent free convectors and other space products.
  • Lead the development, testing, and analysis of advanced combustion technologies and systems.
  • Optimize combustion systems for performance, durability, efficiency, emissions and operability.
  • Develop predictive tools and methods to validate combustion efficiency and burner performance.
  • Conduct laboratory and field testing of combustion systems and products to validate performance.
  • Perform heat transfer, heat load, emission, fluid and heat dynamics modeling.
  • Perform energy modeling to design new combustion systems and heat exchangers with increased efficiency.
  • Evaluate new, environmentally sustainable fuels to address needs for energy efficiency.
  • Apply fundamental combustion principles to the design and development of new gas-fired products.
  • Conduct experiments and analyze data from dynamics and combustion experiments.
  • Identify, evaluate and correlate controlling chemical and physical processes in new high-efficiency and low-emission technologies.
  • Design and conduct evaluation, verification, validation, field tests, and certification plans.
  • Development of application solutions for both Commercial and Residential products to ensure expected and reliable product performance.
  • Act as mentor and interface with other engineers and assist with multiple assignments as needed.
  • Develop, assist, review and approve the development of technical literature for products.
  • Embrace new product development processes and practices.
  • Support a collaborative environment and drive knowledge sharing throughout the engineering group.
  • Actively develop new product applications and / or product solutions to support the marketplace growth.
  • Full combustion / thermal subsystem application responsibility from beginning to end.
  • Embrace and support growing business demands in a changing environment.
  • Various projects as requested.
  • Awareness and compliance of Company Policies and Procedures.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Knowledge:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Related Field. MS and PhD preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in engineering applications and development related to combustion, emissions, gas-fired burners, heat exchangers, combustion heat & fluid mechanics, combustion and heat transfer modeling.
  • Strong understanding of coupling combustion chemical reactions, equilibrium, thermodynamics, transport and heat & fluid dynamics.
  • Analysis of complex dynamic phenomena in combustion systems, heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
  • Understanding of CSA certification, Energy Star and ANSI standards related to energy efficiency is a plus.
  • Strong experience with mechanical systems, space and product development and application.
  • Experience in simulation tools such as COMSOL Multiphysics, Ansys or other CFD tools available to industry.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D software.
  • Experience developing products via New Product Development process (Stage Gate Process).
