Position Summary

This role reviews innovation projects and supports the manufacturing and supply chain functions with technical guidance to reduce quality and food safety risks.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide technical guidance and project execution to high visibility innovation projects.
Develop and implement internal quality systems with appropriate reporting tools to optimize function performance.
Use statistical tools to assess processes and track progress of quality programs.
Moderate domestic travel, occasional international travel (USA).
Lead key projects that drive product quality, process improvement, and reduce business risk.
Remain alert for emerging issues and their impact on Quality and Quality processes.
Effective management of time and resources of a team to achieve business results.
Participate in Quality Risk Management Process (QRMP) assessments/audits and support the implementation of QRMP and Golden Rules at internal Canadian manufacturing locations.


Qualifications

Minimum of a B.S. in Food Science or related sciences/field and/or 3-5 years experience in a Food Related or Science Related Field preferred. Demonstrable ability to supervise and train others effectively.
Experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred.
25-50% travel required.

Experiences

Basic to moderate knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, leadership techniques, food production methods and coordination of people and resources.
Moderate knowledge of scientific techniques, raw materials, production processes, quality assurance, cost and other techniques for maximizing the effectiveness of the Food Safety and Quality function.
Moderate to Advanced knowledge of Continuous Improvement tools such as Lean, Six Sigma, PDCA, etc. Certification is preffered (Green belt and/or Black Belt).
Strong mathematical and statistics ability.
Basic knowledge of principles and methods for creating curriculum and training design, teaching, instruction for individuals.
Basic to Moderate knowledge of specific Quality Assurance or Regulatory Affairs technical fields (food safety, regulatory, chemistry, microbiology, consumer affairs, supply chain, etc.)


Individual Skills

Strong Active Listening Skills ' gives full attention to what others are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate time.
Advanced to Exceptional Oral, Written and Presentation skills.
Moderate ability for Critical thinking and Complex Problem Solving.
Basic management of personnel resources through motivation, development, and direction.
Highly developed Leadership skills and strong ability to train others.
Moderate ability to influence others and negotiation skills. Must persuade and lead individuals or teams to follow business rules, food safety parameters or other key components of Quality.
Advanced computer, software and keyboarding skills.
Inductive reasoning: The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
Pro-Active Problem Solving Approach: The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
Deductive reasoning: The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
Multi-Task: Should be able to balance multiple projects at one time and prioritize to meet deadlines.
Written Comprehension: The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
Advanced computer and presentation skills: Must be able to make oral and visual presentations to small and large groups so others will understand.
