Description
client gas turbine engineering is looking for a materials testing contractor to work on site at our Schenectady campus. This position will require daily testing/operation of furnace based material testing with detailed data collection in Microsoft Excel. The testing requires the ability to handle and move delicate samples. Furnace based testing utilizes PID controllers, basic programming experience is desired.

Additional responsibilities will be added to fabricate test frames/set up burner-rig style tests, prepare samples utilizing water jet/polishing disks/heat treatment furnaces, and analyze samples using hardness testers/optical microscopy. Work is done on a professional team that utilizes computer-based collaboration tools.

Responsibilities
Set up & conduct experiments to test material properties
Prepare samples for testing in furnaces & burner rigs
Requires delicate work to preserve sample details
Perform daily inspections & documentation of samples in test
Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory of consumable, replacement parts
Package post test samples for characterization at other client locations and/or external suppliers

Required Qualifications
• Fluent in Excel including data logging, data plotting, and math functions
• Experience in detailed data recording and tracking
• Ability to learn software applications specific to lab measurement and data recording equipment
• Ability to work on feet for majority of the work shift and lift up to 25lbs
• Ability to work in a professional environment
• Computer literacy
• Ability to work independently

Desired Qualifications
• Experience programming PID controllers
• Experience operating and maintaining test equipment
• Experience operating laboratory analysis equipment including hardness testers and optical microscopes
• Experience in furnace operation
• 2 year technical college degree
