Job description: Production Operator
2. Reports to: Lead/Utility Mechanic
3. Purpose of the Job
a. Do all production activities and operate production equipment in accordance to the plant capacity and in conformity with SHE requirements, SOP’s, Quality standards and time sequences. Performs all duties associated with the production of custom vitamin premixes. Receives, unloads, stores, delivers and ships raw and finished materials.
4. Job Context
a. 1st mission is to produce in a safe way with respect of all safety procedures in place.
i. Working in the Fort Worth Blend Plant
ii. Working shift patterns: 5 days per week according to marketing requirements.
iii. 175 different products for feed premixes
iv. A volume of approx. 6500 tonnes/year (depending on production planning)
v. Batch processing
vi. 100 products
vii. 2 packaging lines
viii. Manual and automatic supervision
b. Main operations used:
i. Mixing, packaging, blending, packaging machines
c. Certification of the plants: ISO 9001/2000
5. Job Content – Key areas of accountability/responsibility
a. Handle raw materials, transport from storage to dispensing area, weigh and add to mixer, bagging and stacking of goods
b. Monitor equipment and process
c. Report disturbances to the Lead/Utility Mechanic and inform about process adjustments as necessary.
d. Take samples and perform physical examination, decide on operational action to be taken as appropriate.
e. Perform minor maintenance work on equipment when necessary to ensure continuous operation of process.
f. Take care of good housekeeping within area of responsibility, in compliance with guidelines, orders, and instructions.
g. Warn offenders and inform the supervisor if and when instructions are not compiled with.
h. Support the lead operator in investigating asset utilization issues.
i. Operate in accordance with Quality, Health, Environment and Safety guidelines and instructions.
j. Communicate relevant details with team members and colleagues.
k. Examines finished products to determine consistency and blend characteristics.
l. Samples products according to Quality Procedures.
m. Recommends improvements to product appearance, flow and packaging
n. Assist utility mechanic as required.
o. Monitors warehouse stock levels to ensure continuous production.
p. Performs regular safety inspections and makes recommendations for improvement. Checks calibration of scales daily and maintains records.
6. Complexity of the Job
a. To know the increasing number of procedures especially the new safety procedures
7. Knowledge and educational level
a. Educational level
b. 12 years, high school diploma or equivalent
c. Minimum 6 month related experience preferred
8. Required level of experiences
a. Ability to operate computers/terminals
b. Must be able to operate forklift
c. Knowledge of, adherence to and enforcement of DSM Corporate policies addressing Safety, Health, and Environmental requirements
