A well-established financial institution in Richmond, VA is seeking an experienced Accounting Specialist to support daily accounting operations. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual with a strong background in payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable within a regulated or professional environment.

Position Overview

The Accounting Specialist will be responsible for supporting core accounting functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing of financial transactions. This position partners closely with internal finance and operations teams and plays a critical role in maintaining financial integrity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
  • Support payroll processing, including data entry, reconciliations, and issue resolution
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and assist with month-end and year-end close
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
  • Prepare basic financial reports and schedules as requested
  • Assist with audits, reviews, and regulatory reporting
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with finance and operational teams to improve accounting processes
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and banking regulations
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within banking, financial services, or a regulated environment
  • Hands-on experience with payroll, AP, and AR
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
  • Understanding of general accounting principles and best practices
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working in banking or financial services
  • Exposure to internal audits or regulatory reporting
  • System implementation or process improvement experience
