What Happens After You Apply.

The AccountingSection of the Division of Gamingprimarily exists to comply with: Limited Stakes Gaming statutes requiring monthly financial reporting to the Governor, State Treasurer, Speaker of the House, President of the Senate, etc.; comply with fiscal rules including adequate internal controls, modified accrual reporting; provide all financial services such as collecting monies due, make prompt refunds of background deposits, design and install computer system changes resulting from statutory requirements, management requirements, internal controls, GAAP, and audit recommendations. Following the passage of Proposition DD, the Gaming Accounting Section is also responsible for effectively controlling and managing separation of costs between Gaming and Sports Betting operations. The Division operates from three cities within Colorado and has a staff of 90. This section also provides meaningful and timely reports for Division of Gaming staff and managers.

We're hiring a detailed individual who is able to work independently to be our Accountant III in the Division of Gaming! You'll be preparing monthly financial statements and reconciliations. Your attention to detail and level of accuracy will ensure transactions, reports and financial data are complete and accurate. Primary Duties:
Financial Reporting & Maintaining Sub-Systems -

  • Prepares and approves adjustments and accruals to accurately reflect the Divisions financial position at month end.
  • Ensures the general ledger and financial reports are accurate.
  • Organizes, reviews, and makes adjustments to accounting reports.
Monthly Financial Statement Preparation and Account Reconciliation -
  • Prepares the Sports Betting Fund monthly unaudited financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Performs reconciliations or reviews reconciliations performed by others on a monthly basis to ensure accounting information is accurately recorded on all appropriate systems.
Fiscal Year End Closing -
  • Calculates the distribution of Sports Betting Proceeds at year end to each entity as outlined in statute.
  • Acts as the main point of contact for the external auditors during the yearly financial statement audit.
  • Gathers requested documentation prior to the audit, assists the auditors in gaining an understanding of the Division's processes, prepares additional schedules as requested, and answers any questions the auditors may have when possible.
Staff Authority for Sports Betting Accounting Section -
  • Resolves problems in areas of inter-agency agreements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and reimbursements as they relate to the Sports Betting Fund.
  • Trains and assists others in the Gaming Accounting Section when necessary.
Position Details:
  • There will be infrequent in office meetings or training.
  • Unless there is a unique circumstance, this position, along with the other members of the accounting section, is not allowed to take personal leave in July and August and will be limited when taking personal leave during the end of June and September.

8 years of professional experience in Accounting.


OPTION 2:

Associate's degreefrom an accredited institution in Finance, Auditing, Accountingor a related degree as determined by the Department, which included 27 semester hours of accounting or auditing coursework will substitute for the degree requirement.

AND

6 years of professional experience in Accounting


OPTION 3:

Bachelor's degreefrom an accredited institution in Finance, Auditing, Accountingor a related degree as determined by the Department, which included 27 semester hours of accounting or auditing coursework will substitute for the degree requirement.

AND

4 years of professional experience in Accounting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting standards (GASB) and their application
  • Proficiency using Excel and Adobe Pro
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Knowledge of State Fiscal Rules
  • Proven ability to work independently and accept supervision
  • Experience in State Government accounting
  • State experience using Colorado Operations Resource Engine (CORE)
  • Experience using integrated accounting systems for financial statement preparation
  • Interpersonal and people management skills, the ability to multitask, the ability to work with confidential information, the ability to work in high-stress environments, and the demonstrated ability to assist customers.
