The Accountant reports to the Chief Financial Officer. This position is part of the Accounting Department in the MWG- Corporate Division and is located at 500 Steed Road, Ridgeland, MS 39157.

GENERAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform the job successfully, the employee must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed here are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the Company and its reinsurance partners.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of all reinsurance arrangements, including treaty structures and financial impact.
  • Assist with accounting, reconciliation, and reporting of reinsurance transactions.
  • Support preparation of reinsurance-related disclosures under statutory and US GAAP reporting frameworks.
  • Monitor reinsurance settlements and ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Prepare and assist with completion of statutory reporting blanks for insurance entities in accordance with NAIC requirements.
  • Support quarterly and annual statutory filings.
  • Provide general accounting and reporting support across both statutory and US GAAP bases.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with state insurance department regulations.
  • Support internal and external audits related to statutory reporting.
  • Monitor the Company's investment manager to ensure investment activity remains in compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with statutory and US GAAP accounting and reporting for investments across various asset classifications (e.g., bonds, equities, structured securities, alternatives).
  • Prepare investment-related schedules and disclosures for statutory filings.
  • Reconcile investment activity and coordinate with custodians and external managers.
  • Support valuation review and impairment analysis processes.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (Master's preferred)
  • Must have 3 or more years of previous accounting experience; 6 or more years preferred and with experience in insurance related field a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory accounting principles (SAP) and US GAAP.
  • Proficient in Excel and accounting/reporting systems.
  • Must possess strong time management, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Must be able to work well under pressure with multiple priorities and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to details.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to perform in a very high paced environment and professionally handle interruptions.
  • Must have the ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to prioritize projects, work multiple projects simultaneously, and meet project deadlines.
  • Must possess excellent problem-solving skills and have keen attention to details.
  • Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills.
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations appropriately.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and privacy in every aspect of the job.

JOB ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The following are job functions that an employee must be capable of performing with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English; Spanish is a plus.
  • Must have basic typing skills
  • Must be able to work as scheduled.
  • Must possess sight and hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position as stated above can be fully met.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, reach, and sit or stand at a desk during 85% of the workday.
