This is a Salem Housing Authority position, which is a separate employer from the City of Salem.

What you will do:
The Accountant performs statistical work requiring important analytical ability of codes and regulations to make financial decisions. This position is a responsible for varied technical accounting services in property accounting, grant management, financial reporting, performing audits, evaluating and documenting internal controls, reconciling the general ledger, banking and financial statements, and maintaining federal fixed asset inventory control records, and fund-based accounting system setup.

The Accountant manages complex duties involving a high degree of exercising judgement, requiring in depth knowledge of the principles and practices of government accounting and department procedures and policies. This position is expected to engage with Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and other auditors professionals and must be able to effectively receive work direction and communicate or convey complex accounting/financial and information. The successful candidate must be details-oriented, and self-motivated.

What are the minimum qualifications?
  • Must pass the pre-employment background check.
  • May be required to have an Oregon Drivers license and be able to meet the Salem Housing Authority's driving standards.
  • Associate degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field and three years of experience in accounting, business administration, or finance, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (Not required to apply):
  • Knowledge of Housing Urban Development (HUD) Accounting and Real Estate Assessment Center (REAC) Financial Assessment Subsystem preferred.
