Position Description:

The Accounting and Financial Reporting Manager is responsible for oversight of all financial aspects of the business to include general ledger, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting and budget comparison. The position supports the budgeting process and special projects including financial analysis, reconciliations and process implementation.

The Accounting and Financial Reporting Manager oversees a high volume of transactions, applying knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Attention to detail and ability to mitigate risk and control system setup is extremely important. Performs a variety of complicated tasks and must be able to multitask and prioritize. May direct and lead the work of others.

Primary Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations

  • Daily Management: Oversee the daily operations of the accounting function to ensure accuracy and integrity.
  • General Ledger: Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid amortization, and reclassifications.
  • B Corp/Certification Support: Assist in tracking and reporting impact metrics related to B Corp certification and other sustainability goals.
  • Cost Accounting: Assist with proper classification between operating expenses and capitalized costs.
  • Transaction Oversight: Manage general accounting, including AR/AP, account reconciliations, and appropriate invoice coding.
  • Treasury: Manage cash position, bank reconciliations, and administer the weekly check run.
  • Internal Controls: Develop and maintain systems of control, SOPs, and policies for all accounting transactions.
  • Fixed Assets: Maintain fixed asset lists and related depreciation schedules.
  • Tax Compliance: Oversee sales tax collection and reporting; prepare schedules for corporate tax returns.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • The Close: Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing procedures.
  • System Integration: Reconcile reporting from various platforms (Shopify, etc.) to the primary accounting system.
  • Financial Statements: Prepare monthly financial statements, ledger summaries, and forecasting reports.
  • Budgeting: Create monthly sales and budget reports; provide budget-to-actual analysis for leadership.
  • Strategic Insight: Analyze trends and profitability for current and future business offerings.
  • Collaboration: Partner with various departments to ensure accurate data distribution and embrace tech automation.
  • Other tasks as necessary and assigned.

  • Prior experience in an accounting and finance role.
  • Knowledge of the food and wine industry.
  • Positive interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to interact effectively with various people to secure necessary information and gain cooperation in complying with processes and guidelines.
  • Impeccable attention to detail, prioritization, multi-tasking and task planning.
  • Strong quantitative analysis and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Technical Expertise Required

  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • QuickBooks Enterprise experience.
  • Shopify experience a plus.

Education/Training Required

  • 5+ years of accounting experience including responsibility for accounting transactions (GL, AR & AP), preferably in the wine or food industry.
