JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) hires and promote great people with a wide range of backgrounds to continue to create and maintain a diverse and inclusive worksplace. We are seeking to hire a full-time employee for accounts payable,this person may be hired at either the associate or specialist level. This person would perform a wide range of daily general accounting activities that relate to handling purchase request and processing invoices for payment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Organizational Stewardship:

  • Ensures timely processing all remittance beginning with reviewing instructions to check runs ACH transactions.
  • Investigates and resolves problems associated with processing of invoices and purchase orders.
  • Ensures all purchase requests are aligned with budget allocation, reviews, and approves all purchase requests.

Communications/People:

Handles all vendor correspondence via phone or email.

  • Confirm such items as invoices, vouchers, expense reports, check requests, etc., contain the correct codes confirming to standard procedures to ensure proper entry into the financial system.
  • Receives, researches and resolves a variety of routine internal and external inquiries concerning account status, including communication the resolution of discrepancies to appropriate persons.

Execution/Project Management:

  • Prepares bank reconciliations at month end for review by supervisor.
  • Ensures vendors, that are paid directly online, are up to date with payments on a monthly basis.
  • Reconciles various accounts by identifying errors in position or omissions.

Subject Matter Expertise/Technical Skills:

  • Assists with audits by gathering invoices and reports as requested.
  • Assists with monthly status reports, and monthly closings.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • N/A

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with people and other departments.
  • Knowledge of policy and ability to apply that to unique situations.
  • Ability to make objective decisions using sound judgment.
  • Ability to post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and vendors.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree (in field or related field), 2 years (directly applicable) professional experience, master's degree preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting.

Occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force

Associate: $57,746 - $70,739

Specialist: $66,409 - $81,351
