Adjunct Instructor of Criminal Justice - Alleghany Center Applicant must be able to successfully pass a background check. Other screening methods may also be administered. Overview This is a part-time teaching position. The instructor will teach seated courses at the Alleghany Center in Sparta, NC and may teach at any of the three campuses (Wilkes, Ashe, or Alleghany). The instructor will be responsible for teaching assigned courses in accordance with NCCCS curriculum standards and course descriptions, maintaining a current attendance roster, grading assignments, and responding to student questions in a timely manner. The instructor will report to and work with the Lead Instructor of Criminal Justice on course content and quality to keep courses consistent. Responsibilities Plan, create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to student learning. Teach essential material in accordance with the course description and industry standards. Encourage the development of critical thinking skills through appropriate classroom exercises and assignments. Track and document student progress. Communicate with students, supervisor, and WCC faculty/staff through the technological framework, such as email and Moodle provided by WCC. Complete course administrative paperwork in a timely manner (attendance, grades, etc.). Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications A master’s degree with 18 or more graduate hours in criminal justice and a minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching and/or working in the field is preferred for transfer courses. Working Conditions and Physical Demands Working Conditions : Work is primarily performed under general supervision in an office or classroom setting with appropriate climate controls. Travel, early morning, evening, and weekend work may be required. Medium work : Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally; involves sitting only occasionally, walking and standing are required regularly; incumbents may be required to kneel, crouch/squat, crawl, climb, stoop, turn/twist, balance, reach, or handle. Mental Application : Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills are important.
