Advanced Practice Nurse (Midwife)This position is with the Defense Health Agency at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center located at Fort Hood, Texas. A recruitment incentive may be authorized. Student loan repayment may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.DutiesProvide comprehensive gynecologic care, to include but not limited to, well women exams, contraceptive care, family planning, and office procedures to include but not limited to colposcopy, biopsies, and contraceptive placement.Evaluate both functional and dysfunctional problems related to the female to include pain, urological complaints, bleeding abnormalities, hormonal dysfunction and infections.Complete obstetrical evaluations, provide plan of care, and hospital admission; provide ongoing assessment of maternal and fetal status, labor progress, and interventions; and order and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic studies.Utilize and perform screening and diagnostic modalities, to include but not limited to, first and third trimester obstetrical ultrasounds and colposcopy for OB/GYN concerns as well as provide primary preventive care and education for women.Provide counseling to patients regarding diagnosis, disease processes, diagnostic testing, and plan of care; serve as a resource consultant regarding the latest advances in midwifery practice; and participate in patient care rounds and conferences.Participate in the development of peer audit processes, involving a systematic review of inpatient and outpatient obstetric and gynecologic records, to ensure the standard of care is met.RequirementsConditions of employment include a suitability or fitness determination, a Personnel Security Investigation, pre-employment and annual physical examinations, immunization screening, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, credentialing requirements, and consent to seasonal influenza vaccinations or a recognized exemption. This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. It may require rotating shifts and shift work. Additional requirements may be determined as positions arise and will be communicated during the hiring process if you are selected.This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.QualificationsTo qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.Basic Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse (Midwife): Degree: A graduate or higher-level degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program in Midwifery is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Specialty Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse in the specialty of Midwifery or related specialty from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27,2017 or before.
