Advanced Process Controls Technician The Advanced Process Controls Technician is a mill-embedded technical expert responsible for identifying, developing, and supporting digital transformation opportunities that improve safety, reliability and operational effectiveness at their mill. This role proactively works with maintenance, operations, engineering, the Digital Transformation team, and the Data Center of Excellence (CoE) to identify where instrumentation, electrical systems, and field data can be better leveraged to enable mobile worker applications and industrial data use cases. The technician serves as a key link between day-to-day mill operations and enterprise digital capabilities, helping turn local opportunities into scalable solutions. Responsibilities Troubleshoot and maintain various instrumentation map Q, pulp expert, MCA consistency meters, RM-3 online ash consistency meters, RM-5 online retention and consistency measurement analyzers, OC2R total consistency and ash consistency analyzers, and dryness meters. Troubleshoot, and maintain new instrumentation installed with backend transformative controls project (Alkali – C analyzer, Alkali-R analyzer, Kappa analyzer, Wood Chip Moisture analyzer, OWL Alkali analyzer, Caustic analyzer, Kiln HD Imaging System, Furnace IR Imaging System, Blow Flow Consistency Meters, etc. Part of the EO Backend Transformative Control Project Team. Part of the Asset Performance Management Team. Input into the development of specifications, loop sheets, and other project related items. Provide multiple Shift Start-up Coverage during field days and outages. Provide on-call technical support, including phone troubleshooting and weekend duty coverage. Knowledge of QCS/DeltaV/ABB/Voith Interfaces. Maintain and update control system documentation, standards, and ensure compliance with reliability improvement initiatives. Collaborate with engineers and technicians to drive cost reduction and improve reliability. Other duties as assigned. Follow all safety, electrical and instrumentation standards while supporting digital initiatives Adhere to cybersecurity and OT security requirements related to connected devices and data access Contribute to the development and improvement of instrumentation and data standards that support digital transformation Identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and data availability through better instrumentation practices Actively identify opportunities at the mill where improved instrumentation, electrical systems, or data availability can drive safety, reliability, and productivity improvements Partner with operations and maintenance teams to understand pain points and translate them into digital and data-enabled use cases Collaborate with the Digital Transformation team and Data CoE to shape opportunities into defined use cases, pilots, or improvement initiatives Support evaluation of feasibility, value, and readiness for identified opportunities Qualifications 5 years or more experience working in the E&I field; DCS, PLC, Electric Drive, and Power Distribution Systems Outstanding troubleshooting, communications and interpersonal skills Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Electrical, Instrumentation, or a related field Experience working with industrial instrumentation, sensors, control systems and field devices Familiarity with mill, plant, or asset-intensive operating environments preferred Strong understanding of electrical and instrumentation fundamentals, including calibration and troubleshooting Working knowledge of control systems (PLC/DCS), field networks, and industrial communications Understanding of how instrumentation data is used in monitoring, analytics, and operational decision-making.
