Description

The Advising Specialist provides information, guidance, admissions assistance, and recruitment support and program advisement for specific UF@SF program students in the Gator Engineering and Gator Design and Construction @ SF programs. The Advising Specialist also organizes advising events for SF and UF and provides general UF transfer and referral information.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Assist and advise students in the UF partnership programs Gator Engineering @ Santa Fe and Gator Design and Construction @ Santa Fe with admissions, enrollment, and registration for courses.
  • Analyze and interpret student data, credit by examination, transcripts and math placement results as per state and college regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to explain the transfer process from SF to UF.
  • Ability to identify needs and share appropriate Santa Fe College resources with prospective and current students.
  • Interact with college students to discern their unique developmental stage and needs.
  • Participate in SF and UF recruitment initiatives including presenting to small and large groups of students in person and online.
  • Follow up with students for mid-term retention initiatives for GE/GDC@SF students.
  • Provide empathetic academic counseling during pivotal transitions along the student academic path.
  • Provide timely feedback and analysis of student and program gaps in service and/or efficiency to enable improvements and increased accuracy of advising.
  • Serve the College community through College committees as needed.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Work infrequent evening or weekend events, occasionally outdoors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Reports to: Manager, UF@SF

Qualifications

Required: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with two (2) years of work experience in a college or other post-secondary setting, specifically in academic advisement, student affairs, counseling, or a strongly related area.
Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.

  • Team Orientation & Interpersonal - highly motivated team player with ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all levels within and external to the organization.
  • Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.
  • Organization & Time Management - able to plan, schedule, and organize tasks related to the job to achieve goals.
  • Ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment.
