As a Aerial Delivery Specialist (INDEF) (Title 32), WG-5201-10, you will:

  • Inspects a variety of airdrop equipment such as parachutes, multi loop lines, extraction force transfer couplings, latch assembly couplings, cable assembly couplings, actuator assembly, release cargo parachute M-1, lanyard arming wire, connector parachute, timer delay assembly, link lower suspension, link assembly single suspension type IV, link assembly heavy duty, link 4 point, parachute release single knife, bracket suspension, and tie down cargo quick release.
  • Performs visual, dimensional, hands on, and operational inspection of the above listed equipment at the prescribed times.
  • Makes judgmental decisions on proximity to tolerance sand interrelated dimensions on timer delay systems of M-1 release, latch assembly couplings, cable assembly couplings, and actuator assembly.
  • Inspects for burrs, tears, significant fraying, rough spots, corrosion, pits, cracks, welds, cuts, foreign material, bends, damaged threads, adjusting collars, set screws, shank pins, and timers activate within specifications.
  • Prepares and conducts inspections of sling load equipment and sling load operations.
  • Performs initial inspection on all parachutes, textile and non-textile components, and airdrop containers.
  • Conducts regular testing of parachute and newly issued airdrop equipment.
  • Drop-tests troop-type personnel parachute to check proficiency.
  • Assists supervisory personnel in receiving, maintaining, and issuing supplies, as well planning work requirements and yearly forecasting.
  • Focuses on dimensions and weights of rigged airdrop loads IAW ARs, TMs, FMs, and DA PAMs.
  • Rigs and prepares unilateral airdrop training loads to include type V or other airdrop platforms for airdrops. Fabricates container delivery systems loads, skid boards, and other associated airdrop items. Receives, unpacks, and inspects unit parachutes.
  • Cleans, dries, inspects, and packs cargo and personnel parachutes after use.
  • Maintains and repairs a variety of fabric, rubber, and metallic equipment.
  • Performs technical order compliance modifications and modifications of parachutes and related items. Maintains an adequate stock level of current aerial delivery system equipment, components, and supplies.
  • Serves as unit representative on the Aerial Delivery Review Panel and as a Joint Airdrop Inspector.
  • Performs drop zone control operations as Drop Zone Safety Officer. Conducts weather observations, wind speed, direction determination, marking drop zone with navigation aids and timing points, establishing and maintaining air to ground and point to point radio communications, relaying information to aircraft and to the Range Control Officer.
  • Directs and controls all airdrop zone operations to ensure the safe operation and protection of aircraft, vehicles, personnel, and equipment.
  • Formulates, implements, and documents programs to train Airborne unit commanders in support of Aerial delivery deployment functions to ensure effective and efficient operations of unit deployment processes.
  • Provides subject matter and technical expertise on air transportation and aerial delivery operations to the Division, Brigade, Group, Battalion, and Company CDRs.
  • Provides hands-on training and classroom instruction for MTOE units in parachute systems and techniques. This includes Materiel Work Orders (MWO)s, Safety of Use Messages (SOUM)s, updated and or current Jump Master Procedures, and New Equipment Training.
  • Ensures airborne personnel and cargo for transport by air meet proper specifications to maximize safety of aircraft, aircrew, cargo, and passengers.
  • Ensures all Military Occupational Specialty Qualified (MOSQ) personnel maintain exceptionally high standards of proficiency and are trained to the Army Standard in aerial delivery operations and parachute packing and aerial delivery systems maintenance.
  • Serves as the Commander's Subject Matter Expert (SME) for orchestrating daily and long-range utilization of the aerial delivery systems to ensure accomplishment of assigned missions as well as support for future missions and deployment operations.
  • Establishes, revises, or reviews policies, procedures, mission objectives, and organization design for airdrop management and service activities, ensuring that airdrop missions and/or flight safety is not promised.
  • Follows prescribed loading and safety procedures, calculates load restraints and secures cargo with appropriate devices and equipment.
  • Checks cargo against manifests and annotates overages, shortages, or damage.
  • Performs other additional duties as assigned.

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. BASIC QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To qualify an applicant for one of the FWS 5210 positions, apply and evaluate the applicant's competencies, military and civilian experiences, completed education, learned skills, obtained knowledge, endorsed abilities, and training program accomplishments. The following five basic qualification factors are applicable to the FWS 5210 positions:
  • Skilled in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately;

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must have at least 18 months of working experiences in performing various aerial delivery functions, necessary for day-to-day aerial delivery operations:
  • Experiences may include airdrop and airdrop inspections of equipment and personnel, rigging responsibilities, unit deployment training, personnel and cargo manifesting, joint inspection functions, load planning, determining cargo or personnel eligibility, performing the safe and efficient loading and off-loading of DoD-owned and controlled aircraft.
  • Experienced in the aerial delivery support of non-DoD agencies.
  • Experienced in requesting or receiving required repair parts, recording repair times as per appropriate technical manuals and processing close-out work reports.
  • Experiences included some work in the inspection applications and routines for airdrop equipment.
  • Competent in following applicable directives, such as Army regulations, technical manuals, field manuals and Army pamphlets, safety messages and ground precautionary messages for airborne safety.
  • Experienced in applying decisions on tolerances and interrelated dimensions concerning timer delay systems releases, latch assembly couplings, cable assembly couplings, and actuator assembly.
  • Experienced on performing inspection techniques.
  • Experienced on the use of designed instruments and gauges, such as, tension meters, scales, micrometers, gauges, torque wrenches, tests sets, porosity, oxygen test sets, altitude chambers, altimeters, or protractors.
  • Have some experiences in handling or inspecting sling-load equipment and sling-load operations.
  • Experienced in performing duties such as inspector testers, pack-in-process inspector and/or final inspector.
  • Experiences included the initial inspection on parachutes, textile and non-textile components, and airdrop containers.
  • Experienced in the testing of parachute and newly issued airdrop equipment, to include conducting drop-tests troop-type personnel parachutes to check proficiency.
  • Experienced in inspecting and classifying airdrop items to determine whether items are serviceable, repairable, or beyond economical repair.

  • Applicant must understand the work activities performed in an Aerial Delivery Logistics Facility.
  • Experienced in making decisions on a wide range of matters that involved deviations and departures from past precedents and accepted practice or highly subjective judgments that could affect safety of flight and crew.
  • Competent in the requirements directed for airdrop joint air drop inspections.
  • Capable in completing applicable certification airdrop inspection forms and records.
  • Experiences included a range of aerial drop missions that included preparation, outfitting, and inspection for delivery of personnel and equipment into maritime environments or exceptionally hazardous terrain.
  • Experienced in rigging and preparing for unilateral airdrop training loads or other airdrop platforms.
  • Competent in cleaning, drying, inspecting, and packing cargo or personnel parachutes after use.
  • Skilled in operating and performing minor maintenance on sewing machines, punch presses, stenciling machines, and other similar equipment.
  • May have some experiences in performing joint airdrop Inspections as the aerial load inspector.
  • Experiences should include performing duties in drop zone control operations.
  • Experienced in observing weather patterns, wind speed, direction determination, along with marking drop zones with navigation aids and timing points, establishing and maintaining air to ground and point to point radio communications, relaying information to aircraft commanders or to the range control officer.
  • Competence was gained through training airborne unit commanders in support of aerial delivery deployment functions to ensure effective and efficient operations of unit deployment processes.
  • Experienced in deployment lesson plans for the following areas such as, material handling equipment, load plans, cargo preparation or pallet building, ramp coordinator, or cargo deployment function work-centers.
  • Applicant has experiences in planning mass or special operations and aerial resupply operations in exceptionally diverse and varied terrain and environments.
  • Experienced in performing daily and long-range utilization of the aerial delivery systems that ensured the accomplishment of assigned missions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must have at least 18 months of working experiences in performing various aerial delivery functions, necessary for day-to-day aerial delivery operations:
  • Experiences may include airdrop and airdrop inspections of equipment and personnel, rigging responsibilities, unit deployment training, personnel and cargo manifesting, joint inspection functions, load planning, determining cargo or personnel eligibility, performing the safe and efficient loading and off-loading of DoD-owned and controlled aircraft.
  • Experienced in the aerial delivery support of non-DoD agencies.
  • Experienced in requesting or receiving required repair parts, recording repair times as per appropriate technical manuals and processing close-out work reports.
  • Experiences included some work in the inspection applications and routines for airdrop equipment.
  • Competent in following applicable directives, such as Army regulations, technical manuals, field manuals and Army pamphlets, safety messages and ground precautionary messages for airborne safety.
  • Experienced in applying decisions on tolerances and interrelated dimensions concerning timer delay systems releases, latch assembly couplings, cable assembly couplings, and actuator assembly.
  • Experienced on performing inspection techniques.
  • Experienced on the use of designed instruments and gauges, such as, tension meters, scales, micrometers, gauges, torque wrenches, tests sets, porosity, oxygen test sets, altitude chambers, altimeters, or protractors.
  • Have some experiences in handling or inspecting sling-load equipment and sling-load operations.
  • Experienced in performing duties such as inspector testers, pack-in-process inspector and/or final inspector.
  • Experiences included the initial inspection on parachutes, textile and non-textile components, and airdrop containers.
  • Experienced in the testing of parachute and newly issued airdrop equipment, to include conducting drop-tests troop-type personnel parachutes to check proficiency.
  • Experienced in inspecting and classifying airdrop items to determine whether items are serviceable, repairable, or beyond economical repair.
  • Experienced in receiving, maintaining, and issuing supplies.
  • Applicant must understand the work activities performed in an Aerial Delivery Logistics Facility.
  • Experienced in making decisions on a wide range of matters that involved deviations and departures from past precedents and accepted practice or highly subjective judgments that could affect safety of flight and crew.
  • Competent in the requirements directed for airdrop joint air drop inspections.
  • Capable in completing applicable certification airdrop inspection forms and records.
  • Experiences included a range of aerial drop missions that included preparation, outfitting, and inspection for delivery of personnel and equipment into maritime environments or exceptionally hazardous terrain.
  • Experienced in rigging and preparing for unilateral airdrop training loads or other airdrop platforms.
  • Competent in cleaning, drying, inspecting, and packing cargo or personnel parachutes after use.
  • Skilled in operating and performing minor maintenance on sewing machines, punch presses, stenciling machines, and other similar equipment.
  • May have some experiences in performing joint airdrop Inspections as the aerial load inspector.
  • Experiences should include performing duties in drop zone control operations.
  • Experienced in observing weather patterns, wind speed, direction determination, along with marking drop zones with navigation aids and timing points, establishing and maintaining air to ground and point to point radio communications, relaying information to aircraft commanders or to the range control officer.
  • Competence was gained through training airborne unit commanders in support of aerial delivery deployment functions to ensure effective and efficient operations of unit deployment processes.
  • Experienced in deployment lesson plans for the following areas such as, material handling equipment, load plans, cargo preparation or pallet building, ramp coordinator, or cargo deployment function work-centers.
  • Applicant has experiences in planning mass or special operations and aerial resupply operations in exceptionally diverse and varied terrain and environments.
  • Experienced in performing daily and long-range utilization of the aerial delivery systems that ensured the accomplishment of assigned missions.

  • Applicant has experiences in complying with rules and directives as published by DoD service agencies along with the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Aviation Administration, International Civil Aeronautical Organization or Competent in complying with published instructions, work standards, technical publications and technical orders.
  • Competent in the safety of equipment and material handled and for the safety of workers near rigged or aerial delivery objects.
  • Experienced in the wear and care of appropriate safety equipment with demonstrated experiences in safety precautions.
