Launch provides inspiring afterschool programs by merging innovative curriculum with an engaging learning experience to foster appreciation and generate excitement for STEM topics. Designed for kids ranging from toddlers to tweens, Launch’s unique programs spark each child’s intrinsic desire to learn.

The company is hiring part-time instructors to work with students teaching afterschool STEM classes.

For this role, Launch Instructors work at elementary schools in Forest Hills, Astoria, and Sunnyside Queens. Examples of STEM classes include (but are not limited to): , , and our "I Wanna Be..." series featuring , , and !

As a Launch Instructor you are expected to:

  • Provide top quality instruction utilizing proven Launch methods, curriculum, and provided materials
  • Enthusiastically engage students during instructional sessions
  • Help students gain confidence in their ability to learn and succeed
  • Constantly assess and consider ways to improve classroom experience
  • Maintain regular communications with the Launch Program Coordinators

Requirements

  • For STEM classes, subject matter expertise in related sciences, tech, or math; A passion and skill for building hands-on projects with kids; Ability to code using Scratch is a big plus
  • Strong desire to teach children
  • Personable, friendly, reliable and communicative
  • Previous experience working with students as a tutor or in a similar capacity
  • A relatively flexible schedule and the ability to commit to servicing students for an extended duration, preferably a full academic year
  • Most important, the belief that every student can learn and love math and science

Benefits

  • $25 per hour, with most daily assignments ranging from approximately 2 to 3 hours
  • For STEM classes, all curriculum and materials are provided (you do not need to create lesson plans)
  • Part-time position
