Job Description
Mariner Independent is seeking a detail-oriented Analyst, Investments to join the Custom Managed Portfolios Group. The analyst works closely with advisors to evaluate existing portfolios, identify opportunities for improved diversification and efficiency and prepare proposal materials that communicate Mariner's investment approach and value.
This position provides meaningful exposure to portfolio construction, investment research, client strategy, and advisor collaboration within a fast-paced wealth management environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Attend our team's morning meeting to review outstanding tickets, assign workload, and address questions on active proposals
· Review and process new proposal requests in FreshDesk, ensuring accurate data entry and prompt turnaround
· Build and analyze proposals using our Proposal Regular template, VRGL, and Morningstar
· Evaluate client portfolios against recommended allocations, identifying concentration risks, inefficiencies, and diversification gaps. Communicate these findings in detailed advisor memos, also highlighting key differences in allocation, risk, cost, and performance
· Assemble client proposal and supporting Morningstar information to be sent to the advisor
· Communicate directly with advisors regarding portfolio structure, fund selection, and transition plan
· Participate in advisor and client calls to discuss proposals, portfolio rationale, and Mariner's value add
· Monitor market and sector developments to provide context for active portfolio management decisions
· Answer incoming calls to the Proposals Team phone queue, assisting advisors and clients with questions or document requests
· Maintain FreshDesk organization and track proposal inflow and outflow to ensure we are meeting anticipated meeting dates
· Monitor and follow up on outstanding FreshDesk tickets
· Prepare transaction recommendations (buy/sell/hold) for taxable transitions
· Print, assemble, and bind proposal documents for advisor and client meetings
· Support integration of new advisors or offices into CMPG workflow
· Answer questions about VRGL, FreshDesk, Morningstar, and overall proposal processes
Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree
• 0-3 years working experience
Preferred Education and Experience:
• Background in finance or financial planning
• FINRA Licensing Series 65
