JOB DESCRIPTION:

Join our team as an Animal Courier/Driver for Animal Humane Society! Safely transport animals across the U.S., build lasting relationships, and champion a culture of safety and inclusivity. Be part of a mission-driven team and make a meaningful impact every day!

Pay: $20/hour

Benefits Snapshot:

· Paid Time Off (accrual based on # of hours worked each pay period)

· 4 floating holidays (# of day is per year based on start date)

· 401k Retirement Plan

Schedule: Part-time; approximately 3 two-day trips per month averaging 30 hours per trip

  • Current trips are Tuesday-Wednesday & Thursday-Friday

Location: Golden Valley, MN + travel within the U.S.

Interview Process: 1 30-minute virtual interview followed by 1 department interview

Job Purpose: The Courier is responsible for supporting the safe and humane transport and care of animals from outside agencies to Animal Humane Society (AHS), in accordance with AHS polices, protocols and procedures

Essential Functions

  • Transportation

o   Support the safe and humane transport of animals on a timely schedule to ensure proper placement.

o   Safely operate the transport vehicle during day and night hours. 

o   Assist with the loading and unloading of animals at source and destination shelters.

o   Monitor appetite, hydration, stools and vomit of animals on the transport vehicle.

o   Provide food and water for animals on the transport vehicle in accordance with established procedures.

o   Perform spot cleanings on the transport vehicle.

o   Prepare the route and vehicle for transport.

o   Complete basic preventative maintenance checks.

o   Responsible for accurate and timely recordkeeping in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

o   Fill-in for local transport route as needed.

  •  Communication

o   Participate in continued communication regarding the status of the transport and any other critical matters. 

o   Communicate in a positive and professional manner with customers, other employees, and volunteers.

  • Technology

o   Clock in and out of shifts using ADP.

o   Monitor AHS email and other messaging software.

 Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Experience

o   Vehicle operation experience and a valid driver’s license is required.

o   Animal handling experience is preferred.

  • Skills

o   Must be able to problem solve and work under general instruction while on the route.

o   Proficient with technology, specifically a working knowledge of Microsoft products.

  •  Physical Demands

o   Prolonged periods of sitting.

o   Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. unassisted and 100+ lbs. assisted.

  •  Emotional Demands

o   Must be comfortable with the emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of humane euthanasia.
