Hey!
Bitwise is a leading provider of mission-focused intelligence solutions that advance national security for the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense. We're a small and growing company, so you can expect to hop in on the ground floor with us and be a consequential member of the team. You'll be more than a contract performer for us - you'll also be asked for ideas to improve our company and improve your career, and you'll contribute to our team culture. We value growth and community above almost all else, so we gather regularly for game nights, happy hours, tech talks, and plenty more. We think you'll like it here!
Remember, Bitwise is not a cult.
What We Look For
Bitwise hires talented engineers who are driven by purpose and who value a culture of technical excellence, growth, and overall wellness. We deliver new and innovative intelligence solutions to our customers at the very forefront of our country's national security missions. And we do it every single day. Our work matters, and so will you.
We ask that every new hire be able to:
Contribute meaningful thought leadership - if not right away, over time
Interact with our customers and earn their confidence in your abilities
Be detailed, even if that means taking a little more time to get it right
Contribute their ideas and ideals to improve all aspects of our company
Allow us to invest in their education so we both grow together
Know and live our core values every single day
About this Role
This is a rare opportunity to work at the cutting edge of national security - building and deploying tools that actually get used, in the field, within weeks of delivery. As a Software Engineer and Reverse Engineer on this program, you'll be embedded in a fast-paced, agile environment where your work directly supports a mission that matters.
You'll work alongside analysts, data scientists, and fellow software engineers to develop sophisticated security tools, reverse engineer network traffic and web applications, and automate complex operational workflows. The team you're joining operates within a CNO tradecraft product group that prizes speed, ingenuity, and impact - so if you're the kind of engineer who thrives on seeing your work deployed and making a difference fast, you'll fit right in.
Day to day, you can expect to: Develop production-grade Python applications that automate analysis and operational workflows
Reverse engineer network traffic and web applications to understand and expose their inner workings
Engage directly with customers to gather requirements and validate that what you're building actually solves their problems
Coordinate with a team of software developers to incorporate new technologies and leverage shared libraries
Manage dataflow and formatting to integrate your tools into existing client systems
Requirements 12 years of experience with a B.S. in a related field, or 10 years with an M.S. - 4 years of additional software engineering experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree
Production-grade software development experience in Python
Familiarity with HTTP, HTML, JavaScript, and other common web technologies and traffic patterns
Hands-on experience using tools like Burp Suite, browser developer tools, or Wireshark to monitor and analyze network communications
Experience with service containerization and deployment using Docker and/or Kubernetes
Familiarity with Git/GitLab for version control and collaboration
Familiarity with AI-assisted code development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar
Experience working within Atlassian tools, including Jira and Confluence
Preferred Skills Experience prototyping web applications using JavaScript
Experience analyzing cybersecurity-related data sets, including network traffic and OS events
Knowledge of end-to-end SIGINT collection and analysis systems
Experience with production CNO capabilities and operations
Experience developing or reverse engineering mobile applications and communications protocols
Ability to design and maintain GitLab CI/CD automated build pipelines
