Overview The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is a diverse state agency working in all 120 counties and 12 highway district offices. Its services range from highways and bridges to vehicle and driver licensing, and highway safety, all aimed at meeting and exceeding the expectations of business customers and the public. The Division of Driver Licensing (DDL) is responsible for issuing driver’s licenses, maintaining driver records, and managing driver safety programs. DDL works closely with state, other state, and federal agencies, especially after the Department of Homeland Security enacted Real ID rules that must be complied with by October 2020. To meet increased demand, the Division is hiring Driver License Support Specialists. This role, based in Frankfort, KY, supports the rollout of a new digitized license computer system and requires frequent travel to issuance locations throughout the state. Position Overview Driver License Support Specialists assist the Director’s office and Branch Managers. The position focuses on learning the current driver‑licensing issuing process and leading training on the new system, including Real ID, Commercial Driver License, and National Driver Register regulations. Specialists review applicant documents, conduct background checks, hold meetings, and compile data and reports for managers. Primary Responsibilities and Required Skills Write clear, grammatically correct communications. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Use Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) proficiently. Be task‑oriented, self‑starter, and organized. Provide customer service to both internal and external customers. Collaborate in a team environment and assist others. Prepare end‑of‑day reports, including cash handling. Become knowledgeable of driver‑licensing laws and policies. Learn and use the KY Driver’s License Information System (KDLIS)/IDEMIA issuance program. Process complex applications by screening all original documents. Learn commercial driver‑licensing laws and processes. Demonstrate a high level of accountability. Inspire and lead others through enthusiasm. Work with a variety of clients using strong interpersonal skills. Maintain professionalism, flexibility, and responsibility. Travel frequently throughout the state on a weekly basis. Additional Requirements Graduation from a college or university with a bachelor’s degree; or an associate’s degree; or experience commensurate with a four‑year degree. High‑school diploma or GED. Typical Duties for the Coordinator and the Division of Driver Licensing Assist the Director’s office and Branch Managers with project‑related activities. Provide travel availability as needed. Train new project team members during onboarding. Prepare logistical arrangements for locations. Review applicant documentation. Analyze driving records. Advise applicants on driver‑licensing questions and concerns. Participate in meetings with DDL and other Cabinet officials. Job Type & Location This is a contract position based in Bardstown, KY, requiring fully on‑site presence. Pay and Benefits Pay: $16.70 per hour.
