Position Overview

A privately held commercial real estate investment firm is seeking a licensed Architect to provide design and technical support across a diverse portfolio of commercial real estate projects, primarily focused on retail properties, with exposure to residential and mixed-use developments.

This role supports projects throughout all phases of development, from early feasibility and design through construction administration. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, hands-on documentation experience, and the ability to collaborate closely with consultants, internal stakeholders, and construction teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide architectural support for a portfolio of primarily commercial real estate projects, including retail, with exposure to residential and mixed-use developments
  • Prepare architectural drawings, design documents, and full construction document sets for permitting and execution
  • Coordinate with external consultants including structural, MEP, civil, and landscape teams
  • Review consultant drawings for quality, accuracy, and coordination
  • Assist with feasibility studies, test fits, space planning, and site evaluations
  • Support projects through schematic design, design development, and construction administration phases
  • Review and assist with responses to shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals
  • Participate in site visits, construction meetings, and punch walks to monitor progress and quality
  • Ensure compliance with local zoning codes, building codes, accessibility requirements, and municipal regulations
  • Maintain consistency with internal design standards and operational requirements
  • Support project schedules, budgets, and document control processes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program
  • 4–7 years of professional architectural experience
  • Active California Registered Architect (RA) license required
  • Strong background in commercial architecture
  • Retail project experience preferred
  • Residential or mixed-use experience a plus
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • Solid understanding of construction documents, building systems, and permitting processes
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Detail-oriented and technically strong
  • Comfortable supporting multiple active projects simultaneously
  • Collaborative team player with consultant coordination experience
  • Experienced working within owner-representative or real estate–driven environments
  • Motivated by long-term project involvement from concept through completion
