Location: Hunt Valley, MD (Hybrid; in-office minimum three days per week)

Now hiring a senior Architecture Higher Education Leader to lead and grow the Maryland higher education practice. This role is intended for a licensed architect with deep higher education experience, strong design leadership, proven business development capability, and a track record of building and mentoring high-performing teams. The successful candidate will guide major projects in the $10M–$50M range while shaping a collaborative, high-quality studio culture.
Position Responsibilities
Leadership and Business Development
- Expand the firm’s higher education presence in Maryland by identifying new opportunities and cultivating client relationships.
- Lead pursuit strategy and support winning new work in coordination with Clark Nexsen Higher Education leadership.
- Develop and execute growth strategies to expand market share and strengthen regional visibility.
- Strengthen partnerships with clients, consultants, and community stakeholders to reinforce the firm’s reputation.
- Lead and mentor architectural staff, supporting design excellence, project delivery, and professional development.
Project and Design Leadership
- Provide oversight for large-scale higher education projects valued $10M–$50M, ensuring quality design and successful delivery.
- Guide architectural design, technical documentation, and graphic modeling efforts.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate innovative solutions and meet regulatory and client requirements.
- Ensure projects align with client expectations, budget constraints, and schedule commitments.
Team and Office Growth
- Foster a culture of mentorship, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the Hunt Valley office and other architecture offices.
- Recruit, develop, and retain talent to strengthen the studio and expand capabilities.
- Align staffing and team strengths with strategic growth objectives to optimize performance and outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Active architectural license (NCARB preferred) with 18+ years of higher education architectural design and leadership experience.
- Professional architecture licenses beyond Maryland, specifically within the Southeast and/or Mid-Atlantic regions.
- LEED AP accreditation and active SCUP membership.
- Demonstrated business development success, including securing new projects and expanding client relationships.
- Experience leading large-scale projects ($10M–$50M) from concept through completion.
- Strong design and graphic modeling proficiency, including tools such as Revit, SketchUp, and Adobe Suite.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to inspire teams and engage external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated commitment to mentorship and building a positive, collaborative studio environment.
Working Conditions
This is a hybrid role. The selected candidate is expected to work in the office location at least three days per week, with additional on-site presence as needed. Work is primarily desk-based, with occasional light physical activity related to meetings or site-related needs.
